BEST WINDOW
PRIZE AWARDED
TO MISS GILDER
Second Mace Is Won By
Anderson's Variety
Store
The prize of two theatre tick
ets given by Highlands Com
munity Theatre to its next sea
son's productions was awarded
to Miss Sara Gilder in the best
decorated store window contest
sponsored by the theatre in con
nection with Tuesday night's
Christmas festival.
With Anderson's Variety store
running a close second, the the
atre decided to give a second
prize of two tickets to one ol
its next season's shows.
Mrs. J. M. Valentine, chair
man of the judging committee,
said the awards were made on
three counts, originality, beauty
and showiness.
Miss Glider's window por
trays a fireside scene of the
early days, with stockings hang
ing from the mantlepiece over
a softly glowing fire, a vase of
"lighters", and a table holding
an open Bible with "grandfath
er's specs" marking the Christ
mas story, presumably laid
aside momentarily to greet ar
riving children and grandchil
dren.
The Variety Store window,
decorated by Miss Ann Ander
son, shows the Nativity scene,
with the long ago villege streets,
and a modern village scene with
a jolly old Santa Claus.
On the judging committee
with Mrs. Valentine were Miss
Dorothea Harbison and Alvin
Crowe.
