CHRISTMAS PARTY HELD BY BUSINESS GIRLS The Business Oirls' circle of the Franklin Presbyterian church held a Christmas party at the home of Mrs. John Bul gin Friday night, with Mrs. Bul gm and Mrs James Dance serv ing as hostesses. Olfts were exchanged between the 20 members present, and the Christmas theme was kept up throughout the evening with the singing of carols and the filling of stockings for the chil dren of the Presbyterian Sunday school. A Christmas salad, cocoanut cake, and coffee were served by the hostesses at the evening's end. MISS KINSLAND ENGAGED TO ROBERT LADORE BULLARD Mr. and Mrs. Ad G Kinsland, of Franklin, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Ava Louise Kinsland, of Hampton, Va., to Robert La dore Bullard, of Troy, N. Y. Mr. Bullard is the son of Mrs. Grace Bullard and the late A. G Bul lard, of Towanda, Pa. A graduate of Western Caro lina Teachers college, Miss Kins land formerly was employed by the National Advisory commit tee for Aeronautics at Langley Field, Va. She is now a mem ber of the faculty of the Hamp ton city schools, Hampton, Va. Mr. Bullard, who recently re turned from three years' over seas service with the army sig nal corps, is now studying elec trical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic institute, Troy, N. Y. Prior to entering Rensselaer, he was graduated from Wyoming seminary, Ingston, Pa. The wedding plans of the en gaged couple are incomplete. WALLACES GIVEN SURPRISE HOUSE-WARMING SHOWER Members of the Franklin Pres byterian church honored the Rev. J. Q. Wallace and Mrs. Wallace with a surprise house warming shower Sunday after noon. Mr. Wallace is a former pastor of the church. The occasion marked the Wal laces' moving into their new home in West Franklin. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace were presented many attractive and useful gifts by the large number of guests who called during the afternoon. Personal Mention Mr and Mrs. Raymond Cul ver arrived here last week-end from Longview, Texas, where Mr. Culver is attending school at the LeTourneau Institute. They will visit friends and rel atives while here. Charles Setser, of Franklin, was taken to the Baptist hos pital in Winston-Salem Monday where he will undergo treat ment for a heart condition which has kept him confined at home for several weeks. Harry Thomas, who has been confined to his home by in fluenza, is able to be out again. R. G. Ray, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Ray, of Franklin, re turned to duty with the tJ. S. Marine corps at Paris Island, S C. last Tuesday. Young Mr. Ray recently has completed his basic training. Miss Lillian M. Jones is ex pected to arrive from Savannah, Ga., today to spend Christmas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gilmer A. Jones. Miss Calleene Crawford, of Washington, D. C., arrived Sun day to spend the holidays with her mother, Mrs. Lee Crawford, and other relatives. Mrs. W. G. Jones left Satur day to spend Christmas with her parents in Miller, Mo. Miss Helen Patton, of Monti cello college, Godfrey, 111., is here for the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Patton ar rived from Tampa, Fla., Tues day to spend the holidays in Franklin. Mr. and Mrs. G. Lyle Jones of Asheville, spent the week-end here as the guests of Mr. ana Mrs. R. S. Jones. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Elmore, Miss Kate Bowers, Miss Pearl Rickman, and Miss Ruth Craw ford, all of whom teach in the school at Dublin, Bladen county, are spending the holidays with relatives in Macon County. Miss Mary Jo Wallace, who is with the state Employment serv ice at Rock Hill, S. C., and Miss Myrtle Wallace, librarian at the Fort Mill, S. C., high school, are here to spend the Christmas holidays with their parents, the Rev and Mrs. J. Q. Wallace. Miss Carolyn Nolen, who holds a position with the Fanners Home administration, is spend ing the Christmas holidays with her mother, Mrs. F. H. Nolen, at her home in East Franklin. Hilton Calloway, of Albany, Oa , la visiting his moth?r, Mrs Louise C. Calloway, at her home on Bonny Crest. Gilmer L- Crawford arrived here Sunday from Chicago to spend the Christmas holidays with his family. The Misses Amanda and Lucy Slagle and their brother, Dick Slagle, will open their home on Cartoogechaye for the Christ mas holidays. Mr. and Mrs Clinton Johnson will have as their guests during the holidays their son, Clinton Chambenlaln, senior at Georgia Tech, and Mrs. Frank H. Lewis, of Warsaw, Ind. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nave left Saturday to spend Christmas with their parents, who live near Johnson City, Tenn. Fred S. Sloan, of Raleigh, spent the week-end here with his mother, Mrs. W. W. Sloan. On his return, he was accom panied by Mrs. Sloan and Mrs. Sloan's other son, W. W, Sloan, who will spend Christmas in Raleigh. Miss Laura M. Jones arrived this week from Raleigh to spend the holidays With relatives. Judge and Mrs. George Pat ton are here for the holidays. The Pattons recently were hon ored at a party given by the Mecklenburg Bar association in Charlotte. Mr. and Mrs. Guy L. Houk and son, Fred, have gone to Tampa, Fla., to spend the Christmas holidays with Mrs Houk's relatives. The Rev. J. H. Brendall, Jr., pastor of the Franklin Me.ho dlst church, is spending Christ mas week with his mother, who lives near Greensboro. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Crawford, of Winston-Salem, are spending Christmas with Mr. Crawford's mother, Mrs. Miza Crawford. John Wasilik, III, who is an instructor at Catholic univer sity, Washington, D. C., is home for the holidays. Kenneth Conley is home for a visit to his mother, Mrs. Zeb Conley. Mrs. Pearl Hunter is spending Christmas in Charlotte with her son and his family.
