20 Franklin Boy Scouts Attend Winter Camporee By CHARLES THOMAS Eagle Scout Twenty Boy 8couta from the Franklin troop and two leader* left here Friday afternoon, De cember 19, to attend a camporee at Camp Daniel Boone, near Waynesvllle. This was the first winter camporee ever held by the Smoky Mountain district. Scouts representing troops from Sylva, Highlands, Alarka Cullowhee, and Franklin at tended. The Sylva Senior Scout unit also was represented. After reaching the camp Fri 1, day afternoon, the rest of the day ?u spent in pitching tents and preparing camp. A 10-mlle hike to Shining Rock mountain was the first thing on the program Saturday morning. The afternoon was spent in playing games, and camp fire ceremonies in the dining lodge highlighted the evening. After chapel aervloet and Sunday dinner, the boys broke camp and returned to their different homes. Word Received Of Death Of William R. Rickman Word has been received here of the death of the Rev. Wil liam R. Rickman, 78, fovmer Macon county resident. Mr. Rickman will be remembered by many of the older citizens of the county as a broth .-i of the late John E. Rickman, "ormer Franklin postmaster. He died in a Richmond hospital Sep tember 8. After returning home, all the boys spoke highly of the ex cellent meals served them and voted the camporee a huge suc cess. He shall be prepared to report the number of hogs sold or slaugh tered during past 12 months and tons of fertilizer to be used during this crop year.
