Attend Winter Camporee

Twenty Boy 8couta from the
Franklin troop and two leader*
left here Friday afternoon, De
cember 19, to attend a camporee
at Camp Daniel Boone, near
Waynesvllle. This was the first
winter camporee ever held by
the Smoky Mountain district.
Scouts representing troops
from Sylva, Highlands, Alarka
Cullowhee, and Franklin at
tended. The Sylva Senior Scout
unit also was represented.
After reaching the camp Fri

day afternoon, the rest of the
day ?u spent in pitching tents
and preparing camp.
A 10-mlle hike to Shining
Rock mountain was the first
thing on the program Saturday
morning. The afternoon was
spent in playing games, and
camp fire ceremonies in the
dining lodge highlighted the
evening. After chapel aervloet
and Sunday dinner, the boys
broke camp and returned to
their different homes.

sponsor a benefit hillbilly show
at the courthouse tonight (Frl-i
day) at 8 o'clock.
The show features the "Geor
gia Peach Pickers", a group
that Is said to have worked with
units of "Grand Ole Opry"
A portion of the proceeds wla
go inuo the troop fund.

Of William R. Rickman
Word has been received here
of the death of the Rev. Wil
liam R. Rickman, 78, fovmer
Macon county resident. Mr.
Rickman will be remembered by
many of the older citizens of
the county as a broth .-i of the
late John E. Rickman, "ormer
Franklin postmaster. He died
in a Richmond hospital Sep
tember 8.

camp.
After returning home, all the
boys spoke highly of the ex
cellent meals served them and
voted the camporee a huge suc
cess. Large donations from mer
chants, included several Frank
lin men, made these meals pos
sible.

Tax listers will be at the following placet in the various town
?kips on the dates given to list property for the year 1948. The
Board of Commissioners ask all persons to cooperate to the
fullest extent in helping the listers to get a correct list of all prop
erty. The law provides that a penalty sDiall be effected against
any person failing to list his or her property (although this will

All property owners are required to .return to the List Taker all the
real estate, personal property, etc., owned by each on the first of Janu
ary.
All male persons between the ages of 21 and 50 years are required by
law to list their polls during January.
AU persons who own property and fail to list it and all who are liable
for a poll tax and fail to giw themselves in will be deemed guilty of a
misdemeanor, subject to a fine or imprisonment upon conviction.
FARM CENSUS NOTE
Each farm owner shall prepare a list of the acreage of each
crop grown, including tenths of acnes of truck. The list should
show the total acres cultivated by the owner, also the acres cul
tivated by all tenants on each separately recognized farm, the
acres in improved pasture, woodland, idle and other lands. He
shall be prepared to report the number of hogs sold or slaugh
tered during past 12 months and tons of fertilizer to be used
during this crop year. This information is kept confidential and
has no relation to taxes. Its purpose is for agricultural educa
tion, economic analysis and safer guidance of county agents and
farmer* generally.
