Cherry Herbert A. McGlamery, Macon County representative, has join ed three other state legislators in a letter to Governor Cherry, urging him to call a special session ,of the general assembly to consider pay increases for teachers and other state em ployes. Signers of the letter, in addi tion to Mr. McGlamery, were Rep. Bruce A. Elmore, of Swain county, and Senator Frank M. Parker and Rep. Hency C. Fish er, both of Buncombe. Mr Mc Glamery and Mr. Elmore both are presently living in Asheville. The letter to Governor Cherry cited the fact that the state is receiving more revenue than was anticipated and the in creased cost of living for teach ers and other state employes as reasons why salary increases should be considered at this time. The text of the letter follows: "For some time it has been evident, according to the reports of the revenue department, that the revenue return to the state has far exceeded the anticipated yield. "It likewise was apparent that the school teachers and state employes of North Carolina were being woefully and inadequate ly paid for their services and it also was evident that it was the disposition of the majority of the members of the legisla Carter Wholesale Co., Inc. "Now that it is an establish ed fact that the state is in a position to further increase the salaries without detriment to the very comprehensive program of the state, we the undersigned members of the 1947 session of the legislature, representing Buncombe county or residing here, desire to take this means of urging you as chief execu tive of this state to call a special session of the legislature in order that we can further in crease the compensation of these worthy and deserving serv ants of the people."
