J., are spending the spring holidays at the Zahner summer home here. Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Wiley have returned to Highlands after a winter spent In St. Pet ersburg, Fla., and are at present visiting their son, Erskine Wiley, and family. Miss Charlotte B Elliott and Miss Esther Elliott are expect ed home the latter part of the week from Philadelphia and Scarsdale, N. Y., where they have been visiting their broth er and sister for the past two months. Mr. and Mrs. W. W Edwards, owners and operators of Hotel Edwards, returned to Highlands Sunday after spending two and a half months at their winter cottage in Lakeland, Fla. Dr. and Mrs. Ralph M. Sar gent and their daughter and son, Lydia and Hugh, of Haven ford, Pa., are spending the Easter holidays at their summer home on East Main street. Miss Ann Anderson was the week-end guest of her sister, Miss Angela Anderson, at Ers kine College, in Due West, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Potts have returned to Highlands, after spending the winter in West Palm Beach, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Russell have returned to "Homewoods", following a several days' visit in Dr. and Mrs. J. M Valentine and family are in Tuscaloosa, Ala., for a short stay and are planning a visit to the Florida west coast before returning home. Oratorio To Be Presented Friday Evening At 8 "The Seven Last Words", a musical interpretation of the crucifixion, will be given by the Presbyterian church choir tomorrow (Friday) night at 8 o'clock at the church, under the direction of the Rev. Jack B. ? Davidson, pastor, with Mrs. Davidson as pianist. The purpose behind the ora torio, it was pointed out, which is being given in thousands of Protestant churches at this Easter season, is to direct the thinking of Christian people to the significance of the cross, and its meaning to the Chris tian world. The community is : invited to attend. The choir is composed chief ly of young people from 10 to 18 years of age, and under the direction of Mr. Davidson, it i Joyce Burnette Win? Fir?t Prize In Oratory Meet More than one hundred persons attended last Thurs day night's finals at High lands school theatre when Miss Joyce Burnette, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. J. I). Burnette, was awarded the $25 bond given as first prize by Highlands Memorial post in the American Legion's high school oratorical con test on "The Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights." Winning first place en titles Miss Burnette to com pete in the district contest to be held in Asheville next Saturday. Miss Ann Anderson, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Anderson, won second place and was awarded the $10 cash prize given by the Highlands post. Judges in the finals were Mrs. J. M. Valentine, Mrs. Tom Harbison, Mrs. William C. Nail, W. A. Hays and Henry A. Cleaveland. has gained recognition during the past three years. Taking part in the Good Fri day oratario will be Elizabeth Newton, Martha Holt, Virginia Westbrook, Ann Anderson, Isa bel Hall, Mary Deas Anderson, Mary Jo Newton, Martha Reese, Peggy DuPree, Guerry Matthews, Mary Summer, Jane Anderson, Mary Lou McCarty, Linda Wat son, Paul Price, Bill Savage, Harry Holt, Jr., Bobby DuPree, Louis Reese, Louie Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. R. "That Hagen Girl" 33 Attend Second Meet Of Highlands Girl Scout T.rocp The Girl Scout troop held its third meeting Saturday after noon with 33 girls registered. While this was more than double the number at the first meeting, the leaders would be glad to have still more of the seven-to-ten age group. Saturday afternoon the reg ular Scouts and the Br-:, es went on a hike with k.ic.. ..ti ers, Miss Dorothea Harbison and Mrs. Tom Harbison. Easter Sunrise Service Is Planned At Sunset Rocks # i An Easter Sunday morning community sunrise service will be held on the east side of Sunset Rocks, it has *jeen an nounced by the committee on arrange ments. All persons wish ing to attend the service are asked to meet in the center of town /promptly at 5:30 Sunday morning, when automobile serv ice will be available for those witlhout means of transporta tion. It was decided to hold future meetings on Friday afternoons, at 8:30 o'clock at the library.
