, Highlands Highlights MRS. H. G. STORY * W. H. O CLUB HOLDS EGG HUNT AND PARTY The W. H. O. (We Help Oth ers) club held its annual Easter egg hunt and party Wednesday night at the home of Mrs W M Cleaveland. Personal Mention Mr. and Mrs. Orville Coward, of Chapel Hill, were faster week-end guests of Mrs Cow ard's father, Frank H. Potts, and Mrs. Potts. Mr. and Mrs. Chafes C. Potts returned home Saturday from a trip to Leavenworth, Kansasj, where they visited Capt. and Mrs. Dean A. Rhody, returning by way of Tampa and Sara sota, Fla. Mr. and Mrs John A. Russell, of Orlando, Fla , arrived Tues day and are guests at the Potts house. Mr. and Mrs. John H. C. Perry left Saturday to spend Easter with Mr. Perry's sister, Mrs. George Saussy, and family in Columbia, S. C., and will visit in Charleston before re turning home. Miss Frances Crunkleton, stu dent at Lees-McRae college, Banner Elk, arrived Friday oi last week to spend Easter with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earle Crunkleton. Mrs. J. H. Beale has returned from Fairfax, Va., where she spent two weeks with her daughter, Mrs. George Cleave lana, who is recovering from a serious illness. Mr. and Mrs. Joe J. Reynolds, Jr., and family, of Waynesboro, vGa., spent Easter week-end at their summer home on Bearpen mountain. Mr. and Mrs. Brandon Smith, of Anderson, S. C., spent Easter week-end at their summer home on the Walhalla road. Born to Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Ledford, a son March 26" in the Clayton hospital. Mrs. Ledford is the former Miss Louise Wil son of Highlands. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Chastain have returned to their Florida home, following a visit here with Mrs. Chastain's mother, Mrs. Florence McKinney, and with Mr. Chastain;s mother, Mrs. Zeke Chastain. The latter is convalescing from a recent ill ness. Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Worley stopped over at their summer home on Satulah mountain for several days this week, follow ing a visit with their son, Cadet Richard L. Worley, at West Point Military academy. Robert Zahner Makes Dean's List At Duke Among the 145 North Caro lina students at Duke university who made the dean's list last semester is Robert Zahner, son of Mr. and Mrs. K. B. Zahner, of Highlands. Membership of the dean's list is given those making a "B" average grade, and entitles them to six class cuts during th? semester, in stead of the regulation three : absences. i Cieorge Sargent To Be Pro This Season At Highlands Club i George Sargent, well known in golfing circles, will succeed the late Jeff Modie as golf "pro" at High lands Country club this sum mer according to a recent announcement from At lanta. Mr. Sargent served for six years as president of the Professional Golfer's club, and was professional at East Lake Country club in At lanta tor 15 years, where he was succeeded by his son, Harold Sargent. Presbyterian Choir Gives Oratorio ; Egg Hunt Held Easter activities at the Pres byterian church began with an oratorio on Good Friday night, presented by the 26-member choir. At the Sunday morning wor ship service, conducted by the Rev. Jack B. Davidson, pastor, the church was decorated, with Easter lilies, white gladiolus, white roses and ferns in mem ory of W. G. Culbertson. At the request of the family, who are in Honolulu, the flowers were furnished and arranged by Mrs. M. M. Hopper, Highlands flor ist. On Sunday afternoon an East er egg hunt wa* held on the church grounds for the Sunday school members, to which all parents were invited. Teachers supervising the egg hunt were Miss Sara Gilder, Miss Dorothea Harbison and Mrs. Charles J. Anderson. Prize winners were Joan Jenkins, James Newton, Tommy Savage and Duane Ed wards. Approximately 60 persons attended the egg hunt, and punch was served at the conclu sion of the festivities. Funeral For Mell, Highlands Man's Brother, Is Held Funeral services for Thomas Sumner Mell, 89, were held la Athens, Ga., Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Surviving brothers Include James C. Mell of High lands, who went down for the funeral, Dr. John D. Mell and E. B, Mell, of Athens. Mr. Mell was a former mayor of Athens and a former ?tate representative. He held three degrees from the University of Georgia, getting his A. B. de gree in 1878, civil and mechan ical engineering degree in 1879, and his bachelor of law degree in 1880, and had practiced law from that . time until his re tirement two years ago. COOK HEADS ROTARY IN HIGHLANDS Russell And Carter Are Reelected T o Club Posts Frank B. Cook, Highlands realtor, was elected president of the Rotary club here at its Tuesday night meeting, succeed ing W. H. Cobb. Reelected were S. C. Russell, as secretary; and Dr. Thoih Carter, as treasurer As retiring president, Mr. Cobb automatically becomes vice president. ; Others elected to the board of directors include O. F. Sum mer, John H. C. Perry and C. Edwards Potts. The newly elected officers will be installed In July. The club accepted an invita tion to meet with the Franklin Rotarians Wednesday of this | week.
