Mincey Is Awarded His Army Parachute Wings Sgt. Charles M. Mincey, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Mincey, of Ellijay, has successfully com pleted the rigid five week basic airborne course at the infantry school. Fort Benning, Ga., and has been awarded the official U. S. army parachute wings, ac cording to an announcement re ceived here. His air indoctrination includ ed a glider flight to acquaint him with modern glider war fare. Practical instruction in ground assembly, parachute rig ging and maintenance, and loading and lashing of airborne cargo? vital skills in all air borne units? were Included in his period of training. During this training he made five parachute jumps from Army cargo aircraft at an alti tude of 1,000 feet and achieved the high score necessary to pass the "paratroop" physical fitness test. Polio Pamphlets To Be Given School Children "A Message to Parents", a pamphlet on infantile paralysis, has been printed for distribution to homes all over the nation, and every county superintendent of schools in the state will re ceive enough copies so that each child in the county may be giv en one to take home, it was announced here this week by Mark Sumner, of Asheville, state representative for the Na tional Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. The distribution is be ing made through the county superintendents with the ap proval of State. Supt. Clyde A. Erwin, Mr. Sumner said.
