The annual home-coming and
decoration day observance is set
for Sunday at the Teliico Bap
tist church. An all-day program
is planned. A picnic lunch, with
hot coffee, will be served at
noon. All friends are invited, it
was announced.

Miss Rose Rodgers, of Frank
:lln, a lieutenant In the WAVES
during the war, is now under
going summer training duty
with the navy's air reserve at
the U. S. Naval Air station at
New Orleans, La., according to
an announcement received here.
Miss Rodgers is a niece of Mrs
A. C. (Qus) Leach. In civilian
life, she is a field director with
the American Red Cross.

Franklin vocational agriculture
department has been notified
by the state office
No veteran will be considered
who does not have a satisfactory
farming program under way
now, it was said.
The men to fill the vacancies
will be selected by a committee
of five, it was announced. Three
members of the committee
Harold Cabe, of Cat Creek, Gra
dy Wiggins, of Otto, and John
Dendy, of Gold Mine? are now
taking the training and have
good records. The tourth com
mittee member is Robert Park
er, himself a veteran, who is fa
assistant teacher supervising a
group of farmer veterans. The
fifth man is Charlie Sutton,
member of the local school com
mittee and generally rated a
Grade A farmer. These men will
review all applications to select
those to be accepted for train
ing.
Veterans who now are work
ing full-time at farming may
apply at the Veterans office in
the Agricultural building, it was
explained.
Another committee, made up
of six veterans who are now in
training and an assistant teach
er, Raffe Teague, has been set
up with authority to remove any
man from the training program
if his behavior on class or in I
the shop, or his conduct in gen- j
eral, is considered a reflection
on the program. The veteran
trainees who are members of
this committee are Bob Taylor,
of Rabbit Creek, Lyman Wilson,
of Clear Creek, W. L. Harper,
of Gold Mine, Zeb Pangle, of
Middle Creek, and Joe Hannah,
of Iotla. ?

State Treasurer. The Buncombe County Bar Association unanimously
endorsed him . . Democratic Chairman Robert Williams said the Demo
cratic party "could offer no person better qualified to fill this important
office." . . The Asheville Times said editorially that "Mr. Hodges has out
standing qualifications for this highly important office." . . Asheville's
Mayor Clarence E. Morgan described him as a "man of outstanding abil
ity." . . Philip Woollcott, past president North Carolina Bankers Associa
tion, said, "Mr. Hodges is well qualified for the office of State Treasurer
