EMORY Hl'NNICl'TT Society Editor, Telephone 211 MISS KATHERIN'E LONG TO HEP VICTOR PERRY Mr. and Mrs. Erwln Wesley Long, of Franklin, have an nounced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter. Miss Ida Katherine Long, to Victor Horn Perry, son of Mrs. J. E Perry, Sr., of franklin, and of the late Mr. Perry. The wedding will take place August 28 at the Frank i.,i Methodist church. Miss Long is a graduate of the Woman's college ;>f the Uni versity of North Carolina. For the past .two years she has been a member of the faculty of the Franklin High school, Mr. Perry served in the army air corps, during World War 2 and is now, a student in the school ol pharniftcy at the Uni versity ol North Carolina, lie is a member ol tlie Chi Phi fraternity. The date of the wedding was announced Wednesday afternoon at a dessert bridge and tea giv en by Mrs. J. N. Dowdle, cousin ux tne bride-to-be. Mrs. Dowdle's home was at tractively decorated throughout with white gladioli and sweet peas. Five tables of bridge were in play, and there were 30 tea guests. A salad course was served by the hostess. MRS. JONES- EXPRESSION PUPILS GIVE RECITAL Mrs. R. S. Jones presented her expression pupils in recital Mon day evening at the Slagle Me morial. The pupils ranging in age from 5 to 16, gave a varied pro gram of readings, including both serious and amusing num bers. About midway of the pro gram, a Dutch dance, in cos tume, was presented. The program follows: "The Fiddle Told ", by Eliza beth Jones; '-The Usual Way", by Freda Siler, accompained at the piano by Edith Plemmons; "The Din of the Carpenter Man", Margaret Jones; "How the LaRue Stakes Were Lost", Carolyn Nothstein; "The Moo Cow Moo", Linda Shope; "When the Jimpsons Have Cold Meat", Richard Jones, Jr.; "What Jack ie Stoke", Brenda Cunningham; A Dutch Dance, executed in cos tume by Margaret Jones and Nancy Siler, accompanied at the piano by Freda Siler; "Laughter of Leen", Julia Hunnicutt; ?Penrod's Letter", Elizabeth Ann Phillips; and "Little Bo Peep and Little Boy Blue" (in cos tume I, Brenda Cunningham and Linda Shope. At the conclusion of the pro gram, Mrs. Jones, assisted by older pupils, served refreshments to the guests. JUNIOR MUSIC CLUB TO MEET ON TUESDAY The Franklin Junior Music club will meet with Martha Ann and Beverly Stockton at their home Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. All interested persons are invited to be pres ent. Personal Mention Mrs. J. W. Cooper and young son, John, of Atlanta, arrived Monday to spend the summer with Mrs. Cooper's mother, Mrs. W. B. McGuire. Mrs. E. C. Bul litt, another daughter of Mrs. McGuire, and the latter's daugh ters, Bettie, Margaret, and Jean, of Hamlet, will arrive Thursday j tor a month's stay. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gul- j ver arrived here Saturday from the LeTourneau School of Tech nology, in Texas, where Mr. Cluver is a student, lor a two weeks' visit with Mrs. Culver's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R Waldroop, of Franklin, ,Route 1. Mrs. Blanche Bulgin returned to her home here Monday from Atlanta, where she has been vis iting her daughter, Mrs. M. S. Wilson, for the past' month. The many friends of Mis. Henry Slagle, of the Cartooge chaye community, who has Lisen seriously ill, are pleased thai she is greatly improved. Mrs. Slagle, who has been ill at her home since June 6, is now able to be up part of the time. Dr. J. P. Janes, of Wakefield, R. I., formerly of Franklin, ar rived here Monday for a few days' visit with relatives. He and other members of the Jones family spent the first three days of the week at "High Haven . the Jones camp on Wayah Bald. Out-of-town members of the lamily enjoying the outing in cluded Mr. and Mrs. G. Lyle Jones, of Ashevitle. and their daughter, Mrs. Steve Millinder, and children, of Mebane; and Mr. and Mrs. Clint Chamber lain, of Atlanta. Guests were Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Nathans, of Hope Valley, R. I., who ac companied Dr. Jones to North Carolina. Mrs. Roberta Lane, of Belk's Department store Franklin staff, will go to New York next week to buy fall ready-to-wear for the store. E. J. Whitmire, vocational agriculture teacher at the Franklin school, is attending summer school at N. C. State college, Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. John Maitland have moved into their new home on Cresent circle. Mrs. Esther Freas is spending several days in Penland with her sister, Miss Lycy Penland, di rector of the handicraft school at Penland. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Swan, of Rockmart, Ga., were week-end guests of their son and daugh ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Swan. Miss Frances Wilmoth, of Philadelphia, Penna., is spend ing several months with her sister, Mrs. A. A. Brooks. Miss Frances Barr is in Char lotte this week visiting her mother, Mrs. J. M. Barr. Elizabeth Jones left Wednes day for a stay at Camp Mon treat, at Montreat. Miss Harriett Kinnebrew re turned to Franklin ' Tuesday from Matter, Ga., where she at tended a college class reunion I houseparty. Joe M.
