ACP Offers 2 Kinds Of Farmer Aid To meet the urgent need for soil and water conservation, the Agricultural Conservation pro gram provides for two kinds of assistance to farmers, says Rob ert Fulton, Chairman of the Ma?on County Agricultural Conservation committee. Accord ing to Mr. Fulton, the program provides: (1) About 50 per cent of the "out-of-pocket" cost of the practices in the form of pay ments made after the approved practices have been carried out. The payment is limited by the amount of money allocated to the county for conservation work under the ACP program. (2) Assistance in obtaining materials, such as lime and phosphate. Quite often this as sistance is in the form of a "purchase order" which takes care of a part of the cost of the materials. All assistance under the pro gram, whether in the form of payments, materials or services, averages about 50 per cent of the cost. The assistance tilts the scales in favor of getting farmers to carry out soil-con servation practices on these farms, where good soil would otherwise go down the river, Mr. Fulton remarked.
