Horsley, became the bride of Jose Angel Pena, son of Mrs. Maria P. Pena and of the late Adolfo Pena, of Brownsville, Texas, Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clot'* at the First Baptist church. The Rev. Charles E. Parker officiated; using the double ring ceremony. Mountain greenery, baskets filled with white gladioli and white hydrangeas, and candel abra holding cathedral tapers were used on the altar. A program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. Gilmer A. Jones, organist, playing Schubert's "Serenade" and "Traumerei", by Schumann, tor the benediction, Mrs. Clarence Henry, soloist, sang The Lo.u's Prayer". The bride was given In mar riage by her father. She wore a gown of white Chantilly lace and net over taffeta, fashion ed with fitted bodice and long sleeves ending in a point over the hand. The full skirt ended in a short train. Her veil of illusion, which fell from a cor onet of lace, extended the full length of her dress. She car ried a white prayer book show ered with white ribbons and gardenias. The maid of honor, Miss Hel en Tucker, of Louisburg, wore a gown of fuschia net over taf feta, made with fitted bodice and long sleeves. She wore a matching net headdress and carried a nosegay of white glad ioli centered with yellow rose buds. Howard Horsley, brother of the bride, was best man. Ush ers were J Hornor Stockton and James W. Horsley. The bride's mother wore an afternoon gown of grey crepe with blue accessories. Her cor sage was of blue delphi.iiums. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride's par ents on Harrison avenue, to which only members of the wedding party, out - of - 1 jwn guests, and a tew close friends were invited. The house throughout was decorated with bowls of pink and white flowers. The bride's table was covered with a lace cloth and centered with a three tiered wedding cake encircled with pink and white ilowers and flanked with white tapers. Miss Barbara Stockton, Miss Merrily Brocks, Mrs. J. W. Horsley, and Mrs. Horner Stock ton assisted in serving. Mrs. J. C. Horsley kept the bride's book. Following the reception, the bridal couple left for a short wedding trip. After September 1 they will reside at Wake For est. Mrs. Pena attended Brenau college, Gainesville, Ga., and was graduated from Wake For est college, Wake Forest. For the past year she has been as sistant to the editor of the Winston-Salem Journal-Sentinel. Mr.. Pena is a graduate of Brownsville Junior college, Brownsville, Texas. S. navy for 18 months during World War 2. Since his return to civi lian life, he has been employed by the Hudson Motor Car com pany in Detroit. The oouple plan to make their home In Detroit. DOWDLE-BRYSON WEDDING SOLEMNIZED AUttUST 18 In a quiet ceremony at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. J. F. Marchman, at Rabun Gap, Ga., Madge H. Bryson, of Franklin, became the bride pf Fred S. Dowdle, also of Franklin, Aug ust 18, at 6 p. m. The double ring ceremony was used. The bride was attired in a navy blue suit with yellow ac cessories. Her corsage was of yellow rosebuds. Mrs. Dowdle, who is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Henson, of Franklin, is a gradu ate of the Franklin High school, class of 1940, and of Asheville Beauty academy, class of 1945. Mr. Dowdle, the son of Mrs. George C. Dowdle and of the late Mr. Dowdle, of Franklin, Route 2, was graduated from the Franklin High school in 1939. He spent 39 months in the U S. navy, 24 months of which was overseas. Since his dis charge from the service In 1942, he has been employed as rec ord librarian and bookkeeper at Angel hospital. Only a few relatives and close friends attended the wedding. The couple will make their home in Franklin. MISS MILDRED ELLIOTTE IS MARRIED IN DETROIT Miss Mildred Elliotte, of this county, became the bride of E. M. Savage, Jr., in a double-ring ceremony performed at the home of the Rev. Edgil Howard, In Detroit, Mich., July 19, The bride, who Is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie El liott, of Franklin, Route 4, has been visiting relatives in De troit this summer. The groom is the son of Edgar Savage, of Livingston, Tenn., and of the late Mrs. Savage, Mrs. Betty Fletcher was her sister's matron of honor, and Frank Reagan, brother-in-law of the groom, was best man. Other .attendants were Mrs. Prank Reagan, Pete Reeder, Kyle Fletcher, and M. V. Den nis, Jr. The couple will make their home in Detroit, where Mr. Sav age is employed by the Chrysler corporation.
