resigned her secretarial position
with the Nantahala National
Forest, will end her service with
the Nantahala headquarters hv.*re
tomorrow {Friday ?. Miss Lillian
M. Jones, who is succeeding
ier, already has assumed her
,iew duties. Miss Jones resigned
a position in Greenville, S. C.,
to return to Franklin to accept
the Forest Service post.
Mrs. Horsley, who was with
the Forest Service for many
years, resigned in 1944. She has
been serving in a temporary
capacity, at the request of Nan
tahala officials, since the resig
nation of Mrs. Comer L. Van
diver.
Mrs. Fannie Allen and Miss
Laura Belle Brendali spent the
first of last week in Asheville
visiting friends.

At First Baptist
Services Sunday
The Rev. L. P Smith will
conduct the 11 a m. and 8 p.
m. services at the First Bap
tist church here Sunday, in the
absence of the pastor, the Rev.
Charles E. Parker. Mr. Parker
left Monday to hold a week's
meeting at Rockingham.
Mr. Smith, foimerly of An
drews, is pastor of the Truitt
Memorial Baptist church at
Hayesville.

Toward School Stadium
A total of $225 was raised
Monday night at the Frankl n
Lions club meeting for the new
Frankiin football stadium. Of
this, $100 came from the club
treasury, and the $125 was con
tributed by individual club
members.

hold its annual reunion Sunday
at the home of Mrs. Burt Moort,
at Rabun Gap, Oa.

tient in Angel hospital, follow- i
ing an operation for hernia
Woodrow Burch, of Franklin,
has been discharged from the
Angel hospital, following an
operation for repair of a hernia
and removal of the appendix.
Personal Mention
W. M. Henderson and his
daughter, Patrica Henderson, of
Washington, D. C.,,; flew to
Franklin Monday for a brief
Visit with relatives. On their re
turn, they were accompanied
as far as Norfolk, Va., by Mr.
Henderson's sister, Miss Nettie
Henderson.
The Rev. J. H. Brendall has
had as his guests this week his
brother, Harley C. Brendall, of
Greensboro, and Jiis nephew,
Ellis M. Brown, senior at the
University of Texas, at Austin
George Raby, guard at thf>
Prison Camp 1009 here, has
been discharged from the Angel
hospital, following treatment of
a gunshot wound. Mr. Raby Is
said to have accidentally shot
himself in the foot.
Dr. Joseph W. Kah'n will
leave tomorrow to attend a
clinic on fractures at the Mas
sachusetts General hospital,
Boston. He will return to Frank
lin October 3.

state American Legion Go-Gat
ters Club, attended the club's
luncheon, held in Asheville Sun
day in connection with the an- *
nual Legion convention.
