For her wedding, the bride wore a suit of soft grey wool wUh black accessories. At present, Mr. and Mrs. Bur rell are making their home with the bride's mother. Yule Program Is Given At PTA Meeting The December meeting of the Highlands P. T. A. featured an interesting business session and Christmas program. Under the membership and attendance contest inaugurated it the last meeting, the second grade won his month's use o. the radio given by Mrs. Harry It 'or the largest number of new P. T. A. members dur'ng the preceding month. After this month, the radio will go each month to the grade having th largest number of parents In attendance at the meetings. A room-mother chairman was appointed for each class room it the December meeting to isstst the teacher in working out social epents and get-to )ut social events and get-to gether meetings for the classes the chairman to select her own committee. The social hour was marked >jy group singing of Christmas carols by P. T. A. members, a >olo by Martha Holt, and a song by a group of young peo j'e composed of Martha Holt, Elizabeth Newton, Paul Price, Virginia Westbrook and Anne Stevens . The- men of the P. T. A. gave an Informal con cert of Christmas carols and other songs. Tables in the lunch room were decorated with native greenery and Christmas can dles, the refreshments carrying out the Christmas colors. Baptists To Hold Yule Program Wednesday Night The Highlands Baptist church will hold its Christmas tree and program Wednesday night of next week at 7:00 o'clock. Mrs. W. A. Hays and Mrs. Paul C. Nix will be In charge of the program In the audi torium, which will center around the theme "A Worthy Gift for Christ." After the pro gram, all will adjourn to the church parlors, where one big Christmas tree will be the cen Christmas tree will he the cen ter of attraction, and where Santa Claus^rtll distribute gifts to the children. At the program an offering will be taken for the chimes, the purchase of which the church has had under consid eration for some time. These chimes were heard for several days last summer, and it is hoped to have them tempora rily Installed in the church d ur ine Christmas week. The complete set of chimes will cost $1,979 and all mem bers of the Baptist church will be asked to make a donation toward their purchase. The in vitation also will be extended to all other persons favorably inclined to the idea of beauti ful chimes at regular Intervals throughout the year, since chimes can be heard and en joyed by all within a radius of a mile or more. L. M. Stevens, Well Known In Highlands, Dies At Pendleton Funeral services for Lucius M. Stevens, 80, who died at his home in Pendleton, S. C. Wed nesday of last week, were held Thursday afternoon at Grace Episcopal church in Pendleton and burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Stevens had reached his 80th birthday only the day be fore his death Connected with Clemson colleye for many years, he was well known to the stu dent boly. He retired from his position at the college two years ago. Mr. Stevens is a brother-in law of Dr. Jessie Z. Moreland of Highlands. He and Mrs. Stevens have owned a summer cottage in the Norton com munity of Highlands for a number of years, and are widely known throughout this section, Mrs. Stevens being the former Miss Kitty Zachary. Girl Scouts Pick Officers For Next Six-Mcnth Period At a regular meeting Friday afternoon the Olrl Scouts of Troop 12 elected the following officers for a term of six months: Ann Hays, patrol leaders, pa trol No. 2; Elaine Hopper, as sistant patrol leader; Mary Summer, leader, patrol No. 1, Joan Burnette, assistant patrol leader. Ina Snipes was elected troop scribe. The Scouts worked Friday on shepherd's pipes and Christmas cards under the direction of Miss Frances Barr, of Franklin, who has been teaching handi crafts at the meetings for sev eral weeks. A Christmas party, to be held on December 21 was planned at Friday's meeting. Mr*. Krug Is New Head Of Telephone Office Mrs. Manila Reese Krug has recently been promoted to manager of the Highlands office of the Western Carolina Tele phone company, succeeding Miss Marlon Norton, who resigned Mrs. Krug has been with the Highlands office for sever. 1 years.
