Capt. Patton Is Transferred To Yokota, Japan HEADQUARTERS, YOKOTO AFB, JAPAN? Capt. James D. Patton, son of Robert A. Patton, of Franklin, North Carolina, re cently arrived at Yokota Air Force Base, following his trans fer from Itami Air Force Base, which was recently deactivated. As a member of headquarters squadron, 3d Air Base Group, he will belong to a group that is charged with the responsibil ity for the proper maintenance and operation of the housekeep ing functions necessary to pro vide a home away from home for the Air Force personnel and their dependents stationed at this Far East aerial outpost. Capt. Patton made his origin al entry into the Air Force in October, 1941, after receiving diplomas from Franklin high school and North Carolina State college. He received his commis sion and pilot rating in May, 1942, at Lubbock, Texas. He now holds the rating of senior pilot. Prior to entering the service, he held a position as a soil con servationist with the United States Department of Agricul ture. Arriving overseas on Decem ber 13, 1947, Capt. Patton was assigned to Itami AFB and re mained on duty there until his recent transfer to Yokota Air Force Base. Mrs. Patton and their three children are pres ently residing at Itami, pend ing notification tor them to join Capt. Patton at Yokota. Excessive use of alcohol is fa tal for anyone who attempts to live under conditions of ex cessive heat. Frank Allison was awarded the merit badges in woodwork and pioneering; Ben Edwards won those in cooking and fire manship; and Leonard Long and Richard Renshaw, those in car pentry, home repairs, and wood carving. One Scout- Bennie Reece, of Sylva? was promoted to the high rank of Eagle. William E. Ensor served as advancement chairman; Scout Frank Allison, of Franklin, act ed as court clerk; the colors were advanced by Franklin Scouts Ben Edwards, Jack Clus ter, and Richard Renshaw; Richard Renshaw led the pledge to the flag; and the Rev. A. Rufus Morgan gave the invoca tion. A vocal solo was rendered by Bennie Reese. Claude Smith conducted the Tenderfoot investiture cere mony; John Edwards made the first class awards; John Alsup presented the merit badges; Mr. Morgan made the Star Scout award; and A. W. Allen, Scout executive, of Asheville, made the Eagle award. Has Fresh 'Punkin' Two Mentha Before Time Fcr New Crop The time will soon be here when "the frost is on the pun- 1 kin' and the fodder's in the | stack", but Mrs. Frank Tallent doesn't have to wait for frost to enjoy fresh pumpkin. She has them left from last year. Having raised a big crop last year, the Tallents stored their pumpkins in the basement of their home on the Georgia road last fall, an^ have been having pumpkin ever since. Last week she reported there still were three big ones to the basement, all in perfect condi tion. Miss Wallace Is On Winthrop College's 'Distinguished' List Seven North Carolina girls were among the 125 Winthrop college students who were dis tinguished for second semester of the 1948-49 session, accord ing to an announcement re ceived here. To be named on the distin guished list, a Winthrop girl must have better than a "B" average on all courses of study for the semester.
