MYF Group Has 3-Day Wayah Camp A group from the Franklin Methodist Youth Fellowship spent Wednesday, Thursday and , Friday of last week at Wilson's Lick ranger station cabin, on Wayah Bald, combining the fun of camping trip with religious i study. The camp was the first | of what it is hoped to make a series of annual trips. Mornings were devoted to dis cussions, the afternoons to rec reation, and in the evenings the group gathered around the campfire. The Rev. A. C. Gibbs, Metho dist pastor here, led a discus sion on "The History of Meth odism, and Miss Mozell Mc cormick, the church's director of religious education, led a forum on "Understanding Our selves". Neil Moonejt talked in formally. Thursday afternoon the group hiked to the top of Wayah, and Thursday night a stunt pro gram was held, followed by a consecreation service, led by Mr. Gibbs. Mrs. Gibbs was in charge of the meals, with members of the group helping with the cooking and dish-washing. Counselors in addition to Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs and Miss Mc cormick were Miss Mary Slagle, Frank I. Murray, Jr., and Neil Mooney. Young people who made the trip included Misses Roberta Snyder, Julia Hunnicutt, Mary Ann Killian, Elizabeth Jones, Mariann Sherrill, Betty Lou Constance, Wilma Renshaw, ily, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Matth ews, of Atlanta, Dr. and Mrs. Furman Angel and son, Fur man, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Setser and daughter, Jane, of Atlanta. Tippett Child DU?j Wai 1146 Victim Of Polio Joyttca Elaine Tippett, six year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tippett, of the Wa tauga community, died at a hospital here last Sunday morn ing at 11:30 o'clock. The child, victim of polio myelitis (infantile paralysis) In 1946, had never recovered from the effects of the disease. Funeral services, with Potts funeral home in charge, were conducted at the Ridgecrest Baptist church Sunday after noon at 3 o'clock, with the Rev. Lee Crawford officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include three brothers, Carl, Jr., William, and Frank; two sisters, Shirley Mae and Barbara Jean; and the maternal grandparents, Mr. .and Mrs. D. H. McFalls, of Tryon. Earl Hurst Former Macon Resident, Taken By Death News has been received here of the death of Robert Earl Hurst at the U. S. Veterans hos pital at Swannanoa August 2. Mr. Hurst, who was 52, was born and reared In this county, and he and Mrs. Hurst made their home here until about 15 years ago, when they moved to Ridgecrest. Mr. Hurst was a veteran of World War 1, in which he re ceived injuries from which he never completely recovered. To Aid Vaterim In Applying For Refund* The local post of the Veter ans of Forelgh Wars will open an Information booth Monday to aid veterans of World War 2 in applying for refunds on O. I. insurance, it was announc ed this week by Weaver Shope, post commander. The boo h will be operated In the building, on West Main street, used by the curb market on Saturday mornings, and will be open daily from 1 to 6 p. m. Miss Marie Green, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Green, has been employed to serve as clerk, and some member of the post also will be on duty to answer veterans' questions. Many veterans are entitled to refunds on their insurance, since claim payments have been less than anticipated, and the government has ruled that the premiums charged veterans, therefore, were too high, and that refunds are due. Church Here To Hold Quarterly Conference The fourth (and final) quart erly conference of the church year will be held at the Frank lin Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock. Dr. C. N. Donaldson Family Will Hold Reunion On Sunday The Donaldson family will hold its annual reunion Sunday at the home of Wiley Donald son, at Prentiss. Mr. Hurst was a Mason and a Shriner, and Shriners were in charge of the graveyard rites, at the Mountain Giew Baptist church cemetery, near Black Mountain, August 3. The funeral service was held at the Ridge crest Baptist church, with the Rev. Cecil M. Perry and the Rev. High C. Moore officiating.
