The exact proportion Is 57 per sent, and this represents a gain aver 1940 when 54.7 per cent of all owner-occupied non farm dwellings were unmort gaged, as showed by the census of housing taken in that year. It also marks a reversal In trend, since the proportion of mortgaged homes had shown a steady Increase from 190(1 to 1940. The proportion of unmortgaged (arm homes has increased as well.
