Highlands Highlight* MRS. H. O. STORY MRS FARGO ENTERTAINS PRESBYTERIAN AUXILIARY Mrs. J. C. Fargo was hostess to the Woman's Auxiliary of the Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon of last week at her home on the Webbmont, road. Mrs. Tommy Hunt had charge of the program, and Miss Dor othea Harbison reviewed the Auxiliary study book, "I Be lieve". Mrs. Hugh H. Gordon, of Highlands and Athens, Ga., also gave an interesting talk on the Auxiliary's present study. Personal Mention Miss Mama Cobb left Wed nesday for a visit with Miss Margaret Yarbrough in Miami, Fla. She will be a bridesmaid In Miss Yarbrough's wedding on September 3. Miss Jannette Tanner, of La Grange, Ga., is visiting her brother-in-law and sister, Cap tain and Mrs. Val S. Pierson, of Columbus, Ga., who are spend ing some time at "High Park", their summer home here on the Powery road. Mrs. E. E. Newson has re turned .from Atlanta, Ga., for a further visit with her nephew and niece, Mayor and Mrs. W. H. Cobb, at their home on Sa tu'ah road. Miss Sarah Hinesberger, of Wilmington, has returned home after a visit here at "Chestnut Burr Cottage" with her aunt, Mrs. J. A. Hines, and her cousin, Mrs. E. J. B.ailey, of San Ber nadino, Calif. Miss Sue Hicks, of Richmond, Va., is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Hicks. Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Orr, and their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Longbrake, of South Bend, Ind., arrived Saturday for a visit with Mrs. Orr's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tudor N. Hall, and family. Tony Chambers, of Chicago, 111., arrived Tuesday for a visit with his mother, Mrs. William Way, Jr., following a two months' European trip. On Sep tember 20, Mr. Chambers will enter Dartmou'h college as a freshman. Highlands Quarterly Meet Set For Sept. 11 Dr. C. N. Clark, district su perintendent of the Waynesville Methodist District, has called the fourth quarterly confer ence of the Highlands Metho dist charge to convene at the Cashiers church Sunday, Sep tember 11, at 11 o'clock, accord ing to an announcement by the Rev. Robert p. Early, pastor of the charge. Liberty Mr. and Mrs. Albert Stevens and children, of Ocilla, Ga., are visiting Mrs. Stevens' mother, Mrs. W. H. Dalton, 'and other relatives, of Franklin, Route 4. Mrs. Elsie Hurst is spending a ?week visiting her brother in Sylva. Miss Verna Kate Hurst, of Pontiac, Mich., is spending a vacation at her home, Franklin, Route 4. Arthur Hurst has returned to Pontiac, Mich., where he is em ployed, after visiting home folk. He was accompanied on his re turn by his brothers, Lewis and Paul Hurst. Leon Cabe went to Asheville on a business trip this week. E. V. Hurst, of Gastonia, is visiting relatives here. Mrs. G. B. Dalton, of Gas tonia, is visiting her sister, Mrs. W. H. Dalton, of Franklin, Route 4. Lawrence Plcmmons, of Sylva, spent the week here with his aunt, Mrs. Nancy Carden. Mr. and Mrs. Odell Hurst, and daughter, Linda Sue, visit ed relatives in the Liberty com munity this week. Fourth Sunday Sing Will Be held At Mount Sinai The fourth Sunday sing of the northern division of the Macon County Singing conven tion will be held at the Mount Sinai church Sunday. Card Party 1% He'd For Benefit Of Museum The annual card party lor the benefit of the Highlands Museum and Biological Labora tory was held last week at the home of the Misses Ravenel. The proceeds from the party were reported satisfactory, al though the excessive rains on the day of the party limited the number of tables. Jonathan Wil liams was ticket taker and di rector of traffic. The Misses Ravenel were as sisted in greeting the guests by Miss Rebecca Nail, table chair man, and Mrs. M. Brown Ed mondson, prize chairman. Mrs. R. B. DuPree was chairman of refreshments. Table prizes were given by Mrs. Edmondson, while the door prize was given by Mrs. Arthur L. Bliss, and won by Mrs. J. E. Evans. Among the out-of-town play ers were Mrs. Tom Turnbull, of Winter Haven, Fla., and Mrs. Lupton Rainwater, of She'by ville, Ky., house guests of Mrs. Edmondson; and Mrs. William Allropp, of Little Rock, Ark., who is visiting Mrs. C. N. Mc Elvey. General Harding and a number of other guests from High Hampton inn, Cashiers, were among the tea guests. The clouds lifted once or twice during the afternoon, so that the views from the home could be enjoyed by the guests. Edwards To Close Summer's Work At Service September 4 ) The next two Sunday services at the Cashiers Methodist church, August 28 and Septem ber 4, will conclude the work of O. C. Edwards, Jr., summer associate to the Rev. Robert E. Early, pastor of the Highlands Methodist charge. Mr. Early will preach at the Highlands church these two Sundays. From here Mr. Edwards will go for a two weeks' visit to his home in Louisiana, and will then resume his studies a the Duke School of Religion. He latei< plans further study at Yale university. ' This final play of the season by thevHlghlands Theatre group, It promises an exciting time to theatre-goers, as no pains are being spared to make it an ex ceptional performance, officials of the theatre said. Announcement has been made that a special admission rate of 60 cents will be offered to chil dren attending the matinee.
