The newly elected pastor, the Rev. Prank Reed, preached to the group. MISS HENDERSON BRIDE OF ALEX DEAL Miss Amy Henderson, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Henderson, of the Holly Springs community, became the bride of Alex Deal, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Deal, also of the Holly Springs community, on Sunday at 3 p. m. at the home of the bride. The house was decorated with mixed flowers. The Rev. A. G. Swafford performed the cere mony before a background of white summer flowers. The bride and groom met in front of the i lower arrange ment. The bride wore a street length dress of embroidered white organdy fashioned with fitted bodice and full skirt. Her corsage was of white roses. Following the ceremony, an informal reception was held. The bride's table was centered with a three-tiered wedding cake, topped with a miniature bride and groom, After the reception the bride and groom left on a wedding trip through Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennes see. For traveling the bride wore a white linen suit with brown accessories. On their return they will reside temporarily with the bride's parents and with the bridegroom's sisters. They plan to begin construc tion of their home in the near future. Mrs. Deal has been a first grade teacher in the Franklin elementary school for the past ten years. Mr. Deal is a builder and painter and owns and operates a feed and grist mill in his community. MISS WALSH ENGAGED TO JOHN H. WASILIK Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Walsh, of Ocean Side, N. Y., have announced the engage ment of their daughter, Miss Ann M. Walsh, to John H. Wasilik, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wasilik, of Franklin. The bride-elect is a graduate of Ocean Side High school, Caldwell college, and has done graduate work at Catholic uni versity in Washington, D. C. Mr. Wasilik is a graduate of Franklin High school, Manhat tan college In New York City, and Is completing his doctorate in physics at Catholic univer sity under a fellowship grant ed by the bureau of standards. The date of the wedding has been set for October 13. MISS WALDROOP ENTERTAINS WITH PARTY Miss Julia Waldroop enter tained with a party at her home Thursday evening. Games were played and refreshments served. Mr. and Mrs. James Hauser assisted in entertaining. Guests included Miss Ann Snyder, Beverly Higdon, Beverly Stockton, Joan and . Two Macon County airmen are spending 20-day furloughs here with their parents before reporting to Camp Kilmer, N. J. for assignment in the Euro pean theatre as air force cooks. They are Pfc. Charles R. Raby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Raby, of Franklin, Route 4, and Pfc. Morley B. Peek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bsulon Peek, also of Franklin, Route 4. - Both airmen completed basic training at Lackland Air Force base, Tex., and were assigned to food service specialist school at the base. Upon completing the caurse they were promoted to private first class and grant ed furloughs. ? Personals Mrs. Grace Watts and son have returned to their home on Cartoogechaye following a visit with Mrs. Watt's mother, Mrs. A. L. Kimsey, in Columbia, S. C. Miss Phyllis Nippert, of St. Augustine, Fla., was the guest last week of Mrs. E. S. Purdom. Dr. and Mrs. Ernest Tye, of Winter Park, Fla., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Slagle last week. Mr. and Mrs. John Maitland left last week to .make their home in Oil City, Pa. Mrs. T. N. Alexander and daughter, Miss Suzanne Alex ander, and son, Neely, have re turned to their home in Pom pano, Fla., after visiting Mr. , and Mrs. Fred Slagle. Pvt. Roger Holland, of Fort Benning, Ga., Is a patient at Angel clinic under treatment for blood poisoning. Mrs. Troy Potts underwent an operation at Angel clinic last week. Her son, Pvt. Bobby Potts, of Fort Bragg, was granted a leave to be with her. Miss Margie Kimsey, of Pren tiss, underwent an operation last week at Angel clinic. Wiley Scott, of Franklin, is under treatment at Angel clin ic for a head injury he receiv ed while working in Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. H. E. Freas is instruct ing handicrafts at the Parkway center in Blowing Rock this week. Mrs. Frank Hlgdon, Jr., of Hanes City, Fla., is the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Higgins. Mrs. Higgins and Mrs. Higdon spent last week-end at Spruce Pine. The Rev. Maney C. Reid, of Edgefield, S. C., is the guest of the Rev. A. Rufus Morgan. Mr. Morgan attended a conference on rural churches held by the National Council of Churches in Atlanta, Ga., Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Shuler and son, Aubrey, of Hopewell, Va., are visiting Mr. Shuler's moth er, Mrs. Julii Shuler, and his sister, Mrs. Crawford Shepherd, of the Lake Emory community. Mr. Shuler is a former resident of this county. Hold Vacation Bible School Commencement At Cartoogechaye A vacation Bible school com mencement was held at the Cartoogechaye Baptist church Saturday, climaxing a week of vacation school at the church. According to the Rev. George A. Clore, pastor, 80 pupils were enrolled in the school and aver age dally attendance was 59. Miss Beatrice Douglas was prin cipal. BAPTIST WORKER MISS BEATRICE DOUGLAS' Miss Douglas, of Sanford, has been named missionary of the Macon County Baptist associa tion according to the Rev. M. W. Chapman, chairman of the association executive committee, and assumed her duties here August 1. Miss Douglas is a graduate of Campbell college and received an A.B. degree in English and religious education from Wake Forest college in 1949. She attended the Woman's Missionary Training school in Louisville, Ky., for a year, and served for a year and a half as educational director of the First Baptist church in Kinston. She also served four summers as an employee of the Baptist State convention in the Baptist Train ing Union and associational missionaries departments.
