Myers, 63, Is Dead After Long Illness Lawrence Myers, a well known Macon County citizen and an employe of the state highway commission, died at a local hos-. pital Friday morning after an illness of several months. He was 63 years old. Funeral services were con ducted Sunday at 2 p. m. at the Franklin Baptist church by the Rev. M. W. Chapman. Mr. Chapman was assisted by the Rev. C. E. Murray, pastor of the Methodist church here. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery. Born November 18, 1888, Mr. Myers was the son of Phillip P. and Elizabeth Mashburn Myers. He workfed as a blacksmith and mechanic with the highway de partment here for more than 16 years. He was married to Miss Bertha Cope, of Jackson County, May 29, 1923. Surviving are his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Joe Craw ford, of Bryson City, and Misses Dixie Nell and Susie Marie Myers, of Franklin; four sons, Pfc. Howard Myers, of Camp Gordon, Ga., Phil Myers, of Greensboro, Pfc. George Myers, with the air farce in Sumter, S. C., and Bobby Myers, of Franklin; three brothers, Jess Myers, of Portland, Ore., "and Floyd S. and W. A. Myers, of Asheville; five sisters, Mrs. Bab son Angel and Mrs. Norman Sanders, of Asheville, Mrs. Mary Pattillo, of Hendersonville, Mrs. Bertha Moffitt, of Baker, Ore., and Mrs. David Jacobs, of 1 Franklin; and two grandchil- 1 dren. Pallbearers were C. Gordon Moore, Harry S. Higgins. George Byrd, Frank Phillips, Joe Setser, and Glenn Ray. W. (Sammy) Beck are planning to attend the annual All-State High School Band Clinic at Appa lachian State Teachers college, Boone, tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday. The student musicians are Miss Jeana Sue Cunningham, clarinet, Bryan Hurst, bass, and Bill Zickgraf, trumpet. Students from 28 high schools " in Western North Carolina will participate in the annual event, being directed this year by Earl Slocum, director of the band | and orchestra at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
