ment.
The Franklin Garden club has
taken on the landscaping of the
grounds of the Franklin and
East Franklin schools as a proj
ect, and Mrs. R. O. Lichtenstein,
chairman of the club's beauti
flcation committee, outlined the
plan that has been adopted for
the Franklin school grounds.
Shrubs to be used are r piostly
nativi, she pointed out, includ
ing rhododendron, mountain
azalea, holly, dogwood, Junipers,
English ivy, and spiraea.
She invited suggestions from
P. T. A. members, and asked for
their cooperation. Donations of
plants and use of trucks for
hauling the plantings to the
school are especially needed,
she said.
The Rev. Hoyt Evans conduct
ed the devotional.

basketball honors this week by
chalking up victories over Rob
binsvllle and Murphy cagers.
Tuesday night on home
ground the local lads hooped
out a 52 to 25 win over Coach
"Ike" Olson's Murphy cagers,
although they were pre-game
underdogs. The Franklin lass
ies racked up an equally one
sided victory over the Murphy
gals, 50 to 13.
Friday night the male cagers
rolled over Robblnsvllle 35 to
24, and the girls tucked away
a 34 to 24 battle.
Caging this week sends the
locals out of town for two
games ? Highlands ? Friday night,
and Glenville ? Tuesday night.
Nantahala High teams will
take on Bryson City on the
home count Friday night, and
will Journey to Webster for a
cage duel Tuesday night.

mend to the highway commis
sion that the state match the
federal funds. Since it is the
policy of the commission to
match all federal highway
funds, that also is considered a
formality.
Mr. Thrash was unable to say
when surveys can be begun, but
said he would ask the state for
early action. How much of the
present road, which leaves High
way 64 at Riser's store, will be
re-located will be determined
by the survey. The present road
was built and is now maintain
ed by the Nantahala National
Forest. Under the plan, It is
understood, the state would take
over maintenance of the entire
highway, from Riser's store to
the Nantahala school.
The type of road to be con
structed has not been learned,
but It is expected that it will
be similar to the present black
top road from Riser's store to
Cold Spring.
