^ Highlands Highlights # MRS B a STORY MISS LISSENDEN BRIDE OF OLIVER E. YOUNG, JR. Miss Mary Luther Lissenden and Oliver Earle Young, Jr., were married in a candlelight ceremony at the First Presby terian church in West Palm Beach, Fla., at 8 o'clock Satur- 1 day evening, September 6. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Lissen den, of West Palm Beach, and the bridegroom is the son of Mrs. O. E. Young, Sr., of High lands and West Palm Beach. j The Rev. Winslow S. Drum- . mond, pastor of the church, 1 xead the marriage service before I the candlelighted altar banked \ with palms and baskets of white I gladioli and pompons. Miss ' Quillian White was vocal soloist, ] and Mrs. Robert Atkinson was organist. Miss Pauline Tuttle was maid of honor. She wore an ankle 1 length gown of peacock green nylon tulle, bouffant effect, and carried a large bouquet of yel low pompons. Bridesmaids were Miss Judy Wells and Miss Harriet Mat, thews, of Washington, D.- C. They wore peacock green gowns like that of the maid of honor and carried bouquets of bronze pompons. Lynn Spence, in an ankle length frock of imported yellow organdy, was the flower girl. Virgil Lanham, of Atlanta. Ga., was best man and ushers were George Spencer, John Lis senden, the bride's brother of Rochester, N. Y., and Robert Brockway and Harper Clark, Jr. Carrying a bouquet of white roses, the bride wore an ankle length bouffant effect gown of nylon tulle and ChantUly lace over satin fashioned with fitted bodice and illusion yoke, with | Chantilly lace cascading to the hem of the skirt. Her finger tip veil of French Illusion was attached to a Mary Queen of Scots headdress. She was given ' In marriage by her father. I Mrs. Llssenden wore a steel . blue crepe and lace gown and ' a corsage of pink rosebuds. Mrs. ( Young, mother of the brlde j groom, wore a forest green , crepe gown and a corsage of yellow rosebuds. i Following the ceremony a re ception was held in the patio | of the church. | The bride was graduated ? from Palm Beach High school, ! attended Florida State univer sity, and received her AB de- j gree from Smith college. She Is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. For the past ( year, she has been associated I with the Broward County Girl Scouts at Fott Lauderdale as : field director. Mr. Young was graduated , from Riverside Military academy, and after serving in the army of occupation in Italy, he at tended the University of Florida and Emory university. He is a member of Pi Kappa Alpha I fraternity. After a wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Young will reside j in Highland#, where he is in the real estate and property de velopment business. i 1 PERSONALS Miss Martha Reese has re turned from a week-end visit in Atlanta, Ga., where she was the guest ol Mr. and Mrs. Ben Bishop. Mrs. C. W. Quinn has as her guest this week Miss Olivia Col | lins, of Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. L. S. i Horton, of Anderson, S.^, was Mrs. Quinn's week-end guest. Onville Owens, winner of the i citizenship medal in the High lands High school graduating class last spring, will be a stu dent at Piedmont college, Dem orest, Ga., this year. Tudor G. Hall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tudor N. Hall, leaves this week to resume his studies at North Carolina State college, Raleigh. Mrs. Hattie Waldroop of Franklin, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Reese, Jr., at Pier son Inn, and Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Davis. Miss Anne Stewart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stewart, will leave this week to begin her senior year at the Univer sity of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. After spending several weeks In Atlanta, Mrs. Shorter Rankin has returned to Buckhorn Gap, her home on Satulah moon tain. Sidney McCarty, who accom panied his mother, Mrs. S. L. McCarty, Sr., on her return to Wlndemere, Fla., Is expected home this week. Also going down with Mr. McCarty was his daughter, Miss Mary Louise Mc Carty, who will spend the winter In Wlndemere and at tend Winter Garden High school. Charles Niblack, who recently returned from three years over seas duty, leaves this week for Chapel Hill, where he will be a student at the University of North Carolina. He is the son of Captain and Mrs. E. A. Nib lack, of Highlands. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Cun ningham have returned to Scarsdale, N. Y., after a several weeks' visit with their aunt, Miss Minnie D.? Warren, at "The Hedges" on Satulah mountain. The Rev. and Mrs. R. B. Du Pree, their son and daughter, Bobby and Peggy, of the D.A.R. School in Tamassee, S. C., spent the week-end at their cottage In Lindenwood Park. Mr. and Mrs. Harper A. Clark, of West Palm Beach, Fla., who have been occupying Mrs. F. L. Olds' cabin, have pur chased a building site on Bear pen mountain. The sale was, made by J. A. Hodges. and Mrs. Jack M. Hall before returning in October to her hospital work in Richmond, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Overton Cham bers, II, have returned to Han over, Mass., where Mr. Cham bers will enter his senior year at Dartmouth college, after spending the summer with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tudor N. Hall. Mrs. J. L. Watson, of Toledo, Ohio, and Mrs. A. N. Grant and daughter, of Hickory, have re turned home after a visit with Mrs. F. L. Olds at her home In the Mirror lake section. Mrs. Margaret Stewart, of New York, and her sister, Miss Sarah Hinesberger, crt Wilming ton have returned home follow ing a week's visit with their aunt, Mrs. J. A. Hlnes -at Chest nut Burr cottage. Mrs. Nash Broyles, who spent the summer with her sisters. Miss Carolina Hall and Mrs. W. R. Potts and family, has gone to Atlanta for a visit with Mr. Louis Reese leaves this week end for Harrogate. Tenn., where he will be a freshman at Lin coln Memorial university. He was an honor graduate of High lands High school last spring, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. Reese, Jr. Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Nail Greville, of Washington, D. C.t landed in Brazil last Tuesday for a two years' stay, where Dr. GrevlUe has been sent on a State Department assignment under the Four Point Program. Or. Greville is a nephew of Miss Rebecca C Nail, of Highlands. Miss Jessie "otts left Sunday to assume her new duties as dietitian at the University of North Carolina after a visit here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Potts. Dr. and Mrs. Charles H. Watt have returned to Thomasville, Ga., after a two weeks' stay at "Bedside Manor", their summer home on Cullasaja drive.
