BRAD* Back in the days of World War II, the saying, "this is it" came into being. Well, in this day and time of football and conference crowns and the the like, the term is more than appropriate, for "this is It" ? and we mean Friday night. So, just take out your pencil stub and jot a big circle around Friday and out to the side make notation "BC Day", for the showdown is coming in on us fast. BC is short for Bryson City in our rather uncouth langu age, and that high-flying grid machine, which has jerked the Smoky Mountain conference crown out of the hands of the Franklin High Panthers for the last two grid seasons, is com ing here Friday night for a game that has all the makings for the battle, of the century. However, this year the Panth ers' chances of copping the Smoky crown are slim indeed, since they went down that long, long trail a couple of Friday nights back in Sylva, but at the beginning of the season the lads abandoned all but small hopes of the crown in favor of the cry "let's beat Bryson City this year". And this column is echoing Demonstration Club Meetings For Week Are Announced Meetings of home demonstra tion clubs in the county for the coming week have been an nounced by Mrs. Florence S. Sherrill, county home demon stration agent. They are as foll ows: Today (Thursday) Clark's Chapel with Mrs. Homer Frank in at 2 p. m. Franklin Business vomen at the Agricultural building at 7:30 p. m:, Mrs. Bob louston, and Mrs. H. A. Wil lide, hostesses. Monday: Sunset club at the lome of Mrs. Sanford Mann at 1:80 p. m. Iotla and Travelers lubs meet with the Iotla P. T. V at Iotla school at 7:30 p. m. Of it. LET'S BEAT BRYSON CITY THIS YEAR. However, the lads will be go ing into the game with two strikes against them, one the Sylva defeat, the other a psy chological thing. The loss at the hands of the Golden Hurricanes can come out on the top if Bryson City manages to dump Sylva (the two terms meet at the tail end of the season) and IF the Pan thers take the starch out of Br y son. That If Isn't such a big one either for there were a lot of us that thougnt Frank lin couldn't be beat this year. But, this psychological aspect, which we figure Is 'some In the line of a defeatist's attitude, is going to be something the Panthers are going to have to work out themselves. Bryson has been the thorn in their side for the last couple of years and it's Just getting to be a habit for the team to have the Panthers in the loser's corner before the klckoff. Personally, we think the Panthers have what it takes to beat the jinx this year and we are going to be pulling for a win. Just remember .one thing, boys. If you beat Bryson you're back in the running far the crown! If you lose, well, you'll have three strikes against you when you take off for Bryson City and the "Big Game" next year. And, in order to win, it will have to be a team proposition, everyone of you pulling togeth er for a common goal? the de throning of the team that is causing all our crying towels to become saturated. So, we still take up the cry, 1 LET'S BEAT BRYSON CITY! Now to you fans . . . we want to see the biggest turn out in the history of Franklin football. Win, lose, or draw, this Friday night's game is go ing to be a lulu and we wouldn't want anyone to miss it. Let's get behind the Panth ers and watch them take the "evil eye" away. BANG! Gather 'round smoke pole artists, lor the time Is here. Those little things that make automobile radio aerial orna ments ? squirrels ? and those feathered things that make jet planes seem like slow freights ? grouse ? are in range and are inviting a little tilling. So, go get 'em! While tomato varieties resls tant to fuaarlum wilt have been developed and are marketed, there are no commercial varie ties with resistance to bacterial wilt.
