I had Dreviously added plenty of organic matter to the soil. What was wrong? A. John H. Harris, horticul ture specialist for the State College Extension Service, says you might well have tempora rily robbed your soil of nitro gen through the use of organic 1 matter. Mr. Har.ris points out that j most of the state's garden soils 1 do not contain enough organic matter, which helps to make tight soils more porous and loose, makes sandy soils hold more moisture, and adds a con siderable amount of fertility. At the same time the bacter ia in materials, such as stable manure, leaves, straw, garbage, old sawdust, and green cover crops, that contain organic matter use up large amounts of nitrogen while rotting. Evidence of nitrogen defi ciency in the soil Is indicated MIXED WOOD FOR SALE 3-4 Ton Pickup Load $7 Phone 486 Or See The Ice Man. TWO IWBim,,. One 1** . J WE raised our eyebrows the first time the engineers told us about it. A new Dynaflow Drive P Better than the one that over a million and a third people are so happy with? That's right, the engineers assured us. A new Dynaflow that's just as smooth, just as simple to operate? but far faster ?pd quieter on getaway, and a great deal more efficient. This, we told ourselves, we have to Wf see- And we did. THE GREATEST BUWK IN SO GREAT YEARS We tried the new Golden Anniversary Buick with Twin -Turbine Dynaflow Drive*? and mister, it's spectacular! As before, no tears ever shift in this wonder drive. As before, you have infinite smooth ness through every speed range? feel wonderfully fresh and relaxed even after a long day's drive. But on getaways you can soar to cruising speed in less than a half dozen seconds? and with lullaby quiet. At every speed range you have more effi cient power transfer. Acceleration is increased 20%, but with fewer engine revolutions ? which means you get going quicker, with less engine speed, less getaway sound. What works these wonders is a new kind of engineering which places two turbines instead of one in the Dynaflow transmission. At the same time, fewer parts? four elements instead of five simplify the unit even more. But there's more than just this sensa tional Twin -Turbine Dynaflow to be had in the 1953 Buicks. There's new power ? including the world's most advanced V8 Engine in SuFERsand Roadm asters. There's a still finer Million Dollar Ride. There's superb new comfort and handling ease, and a host of other advances? 87 in all. Hie nitrogen used by the bacteria In rotting organic ma terials will eventually be re turned to the soil for use by the crops, Mr. Harris points out. The more time allowed for the rotting of organic materials be fore a crop is planted, the less likely is nitrogen deficiency. Since tltt Levites were not given an Inheritance of land (verse 20) the tithe was given them by the other tribes, (verses 2*>. The children of Israel were required to pay a tithe of every thing they possessed, land, herds, flocks, crops, money, etc This was, however, a national affair and was trot brtnrflnp upon other peoples unless they had proselyted to Judaism. No where did our Savior or the apostles require of Christians that they pay a tithe unto the Lord. The law, of whirh tith ing was a part, ended with the cross (Col. 2: 14-17: Johr. ! 17) Therefore, Christians are not inquired, under the gospel, to give a tithe. Giving as Required by Christ In the first Corinthian letter, chapter sixteen, verse two. Is lound the divine plan for giving as prescribed by the apostle Paul There he says, "Upon the first day of the week (the first day off the "week is Sunday, or the Lord's Day, not the Sab bath, which is out Saturday* let every one of you lay by hiro in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gath erings when I come." At least five questions are answered in this -verse. Let bs consider them: A. When to give? "Upon the first day of the week. " The Greek indicates that it was upon the first day of every week that the disciples gave. No other time the early Christians give, to the common treasury, as far as the Bible reveals. This is quite a contrast to the demands oi modem day preachers and revivalists who "pass the -i<nV every tome the ciiarch meets. 3. Who e, to give? "Let everyone of you." The "you" was the Corinthian Christians that composed the church at Corinth. I Cor. 1:1,2. No sinner is required to give any thing for the sapport of the church. Neither does VK* church beg trcnn the world tor its support. Quilt sate, raffles, bazaars., cake walks, etc., are all unscripturwl/ means for rasing money for the Lard s work. If we wooid follow the Lord's plan for financing the church it would have funds enough and to spare. We can t im ? pn*e on U*a*>rd's plan. You will never see the church of the Lord asknig the world for a hand out. - Cm 9'6 * a,i,u uounuiuiiy. ' II *o Hiftti Prwmre Methods to be Used Summary '?it (Jan. 29, 1953.)
