And as I thought of those men and of the philosophy and character and deeds those me morials commemorate, my thoughts turned to Washington at Valley Forge; to the dark days of the War of 1812 when foreign armies invaded this land and burned Its capital city; to the <JO's, ' when America was torn apart in a long and bloody civil war. I .thought of those trials, those dangers, and then I thought of the panicky fears of some Americans today. And I found myself asking: "In the light of the past, what has today's great, strong, free America to fear ? what, that is, besides Its own fears?" And as I saw the Intent faces of children gazing out of the Monument windows, and de tected In the faces of adults ? persons of more than one race, many of them able to speak only broken English ? an unmis takable reverence far the past that made America great and in their voices a note of pride and dedication ? when I saw and heard the people about me, 1 found my question changing to an exclamation: "What, indeed, has America to fear!" The growth of North Caro lina's livestock industry repre sents one of the most impor tant changes in the history of southern agriculture. Cowee Discusses Boy Scout Troop By MRS. ROBERT MORGAN (Community Reporter) The regular monthly meeting of the Cowee Rural Community Development Organization was held March 4 at the school with President Carr Rryson presid ing The devotional was given by the Rev. A. P. Gordon. The mailbox committee re ported that the posts were be ing made and would soon be ready to put up. A Boy Scout troop for this community was discussed. Mr. I Gordon gave a brief talk on the Boy Scout organization and a committee was appointed to contact someone who would act as Scoutmaster and assistant. A THANKS A MILLION, Folks . . .
