PEEK GARDEN The Franklin Garden Club will bold its September meet ing Tuesday at the garden of Mrs. I. T. Peek. A picnic sup per will be served. Members may invite their husbands or a guest. After the picnic supper, a film on horticulture will be shown. The hostesses will be Mrs. John Wasillk, Jr., Mrs. Lester Conley, Mrs. Fred F. Jones, and Mrs. Prelo Dryman. BRITTAIN-HOLLAND WEDDING ANNOUNCED Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Brittlan, of Franklin, Route 3, have an nounced the marriage of their daughter, Miss Barbara Ann Brlttian, to Watsel Holland, son of Mrs. Hettie Holland, of Franklin, Route 5. The ceremony was performed August 21 In Walhalla, S. C. The couple was accompanied to Walhalla by Mr. and Mrs. David Hughes. * Mr. Holland has just returned fr&m Korea, and received his discharge after serving two years in the U. S. Army. The couple will make their home In ciarkesvllle, Qa., where Mr. Holland will attend the North Georgia Trade School. MISS HUNNICUTT FETED AT SHOWER THURSDAY Miss Julia Hunnlcutt, of Ashevllle, formerly of Franklin, whose engagement to James Grayson Hall, of Danbury, was recently announced, was honor ed with a miscellaneous shower last Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Allen Slier. Hie hostesses were Mrs. 8. H. Lyle, Miss Laura Lyle, Miss Freda Slier, and Mrs. Slier. The house was decorated with summer flowers. The tea table was overlaid with a hand em broidered linen cloth, centered with a silver bowl containing white dahlias. Assisting In serving were Miss Amanda Slagle, Miss Martha Ann Stockton, and Miss Carolyn Bryson. Approximately 50 friends of the honoree called. Woman's Society Meet I? Scheduled Today The Woman's Society of Chris tian Service of the Franklin Methodist Church will hold its monthly meeting this morning (Thursday) at the church. The executive meeting will be at 10 o'clock, the circle mee tings at 11 o'clock. After lunch, the society will hold its business session and the devotional and program will be given. Mrs. P. F. Callahan has charge of the devotional and Mrs- Gilmer A. Jones, the program. The hostesses are Mrs. E. C. Harmon and Mrs. J. L. West, Sr. Members are asked to bring sandwiches or a covered dish. Mrs. G. A. Jones Is Honored On 92nd Birthday Mrs. George A. Jones was honored on her 92nd birthday August 25 with a luncheon giv en by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Weimar Jones, at her home on Sunset Drive. Quests were the honoree's sis ter, Mrs. Lee Crawford, her sls ters-ls-law, Mrs. J. S. Sloan and Mrs. W. W. The first auto fatality on record occured in 1899 when a New Yorker, H. H. Bliss, stepped from a trolley into the path of a "horseless carriage" and was killed.
