No. 2 In a brief proclamation, has asked "one and all to join the women of the garden club In the campaign to clean up Franklin and help keep it clean" in the current "Dont Be A Litterbug" drive. Lewis Cabe, school editor of the Mountain Echo, Franklin High newspaper, served as as sistant editor of the third an nual High School Editor's Roundtable on the campus of Western Carolina College Fri day and Saturday. Norman Smith, editoir-in-chief of the paper, was a panelist in a discussion on income, opera tion, ?and public relations of newspapers. Other members of the school newspaper staff at tending were Tommy Gnuse, sports editor, Alex Cabe, Jr., staff photographer, Thomas Raby, farm editor, Margaret Thomas, assistant womans editor, Carol Stockton, business manager, and Mary Evelyn Cabe. Members of the Laurel Leaf, Franklin annual, at the round table Included Mildred Chllders, editor, Betty Howard, assistant editor, and Jerry Norton, Jun ior reporter. No. 3 club women by County Agent T. H. Fagg and Holland McSwain, county school superintendent. At the club roll call, con ducted by Mrs. Prichard Peek, council secretary, 68 women were recognized as "honor mem bers" by their Individual clubs. Those so honored were chosen by their individual clubs on the basis of their contributions to home demonstration work over the past year. Lunch was served at noon In the dining quarters of the church with the Carson, Car toogechaye, and Mulberry clubs In charge. "Travels in New Zealand", coupled with the quick wit of the narrator, John Whltelock, spiced the afternoon session. Mr. Whltelock, an International farm youth exchange student, Is studying this month in Ma con. Using color slides of hl& native country, the young New Zealander traced the political and economic background In his home-land and drove home his points with humorous touches that kept his audience chuckling a good part of the time. Mrs. Florence S. Sherrlll, county home agent, announced the perfect attendance winners and the names of the outstand ing clubs following his talk. "Looking to 1955" and the possibility of a county fair in that yea f was discussed by J. P. Brady, of The Franklin Press staff and a member of a fair committee of interested per sons. The Rev. S. B. Moss, pastor Df the Methodist church, gave the invocation. This year's ''Achievement Day" was in memory of the late S. W. Mendenhall, county agent, and the late Miss Nellie Deal, Solly Springs club.
