Negro native of this county, died at his home in Franklin Tuesday of last week at the ace of 85 He had been 111 for three weeks A farmer, he was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church, where funeral services were con ducted the following afternoon at 3 o'clock by the Rev. J. H. Smith. Burial was in the Love cemetery. He was married to Julia Suttles. who died a number of years ago. Survivors Include four sons, Ray mond, of Coral Gables, Fla. Harry, of Detroit, Mich., Ras. of Franklin, and BeK, of Miami, Fla., two daughters. Mrs. Eva Shannon, of Seattle. Wash., and Mrs. Ava Evans, of Chicago, 111.; five brothers, Walter. Dewey. Prank, and n*ed, all of Detroit, Mich , and Oscar, of Del Rio, Tex.; two sisters. Mrs. Ellas King, of Rutherfordton, and Mrs. Ida King, of Tyion.; 16 grandchild ren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Will Shepard. Wiley Hayes. Ike Wilson, J. P. Shepard. and Bill Puller. ? Bryant Funeral Home was In charge. V. F. W. Post Host Sunday To District The local Veterans of Foreign Wars post was host to a district meeting here Sunday at the post home on Palmer Street. Present were some 80 members from the Canton, Asheville, Hen klersonville, Brevard, and Hayes ville posts. Raymond English, of Hender sonvile, district commander, pre sided . Quests included Edwin Wallace, state deputy membership chair man, of Oastonla, and John Coli\ of Asheville, state commander of Spanish American War veterans. Refreshments were served by the auxiliary. Attendance Prize Goes To Franklin The Franklin Garden Club won the cash attendance prize last Thursday at the district meetinR in Waynesville. Fourteen members from the local club , were present. They received the prize for the most members present, traveling the longest distance. Mrs. A. R. Hidgon. of the local club, won a door prize.
