ity Development Organization,
elected new officers for the year
at a meeting November 9.
Lamar Bradley was named
president; Mrs. Once Ayers. vice
president; Betty Howard. Junior
president; Miss Anna Will How
ard, secretary; Miss Roberta Love,
treasurer; and Mrs. H. M. Pitts,
reporter.
Committee chairman are Mrs.
Grace Ayers, Program; Mrs. Lois
Roberson, Ways and Means; Pur
man Chastaln, Song Leader; Miss
Veva Howard, Scrapbook and
photographer.
Our community won $50 in
this year's contest and we hope
for more cooperation and better
results in the new contest.
Our regular meeting time will
continue to be the second Tues
day night in each month.

Cpl. Buchanan Gets
Rett Leave In Japan
Cpl. Max Buchanan, 21-year-old
son of J. E. Buchanan, of Frank
lin, Route 3. recently spent a
seven-day rest and recreation
leave from his unit in Korea at
Camp Hakata, on Japan's south
ernmost island of Kyushu, the
Army Home Town News Center
announced this week.
The .corporal Is a, truck driver
in the 44th Engineer Combat
Battalion's Company C, and he
entered the army in February,
1953. He has been in Korea since
August of that year.

Of Highway
Work Done
In October, the State Highway
Commission completed 2.95 miles
of road work in Macon County,
according to Harry E. Buchanan,
14th division commissioner.
Holmes Road, for 0.7S ? mile,
was graded, drained, and surfaced
with traffic-bound macadam. Two
secondary roads strengthened
with traffic-bound macadam were
Dobson Road, for 0.6, and San
ders town Road, for 1.6 miles.

An evening singing was held
at the Sugar Cove Baptist Church
Sunday.

son, Jimmy, and* Mr. and Mrs.

Diana, all of Asheville, spent Sun
day visiting Mrs. Jones' parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Vance DeHart.
Mr. and Mrs. Wint DeHart,
who recently underwent a minor
operation, is able to be out again.

end in Asheville visiting his
