Bowers Back
On Duty After
Leave Home
Airman 1/c Edward Bowers,
veteran of 34 months overseas
with the U. S. Air Force, has
returned to duty at Maxwell
Air Force Base, Alabama, fol
lowing a 30-day leave with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie
Bowers, of Cullasaja.
As a communications machine
operator, Airman Bowers saw
duty in England, North Africa,
and Scotland while overseas. On
several leaves, he visited in
Germany, France, Denmark,
and Ireland.
Only two years ago, aluminum
hardware was something of a
rarity. Today, 10 percent of build
ing hardware is made of the
light metal and this figure is
expected to keep growing.

Farmer* Federation
Declares Dividend
The 43rd conaecutive dividend
has been declared today by the
Farmers Federation, payable Jan
uary 1, 1955. to all holders -of
common stock at 6 per cent and
preferred stock at 5 per cent of
record December 15, 1954.
The dividend was declared by
the executive committee of dir
ectors. whose members include
James G. K. McClure, James Mc
Clure Clarke, Orover C. Brown.
H. A. Osborne, Charles Davis, R.
A. Crow ell, D. M. Snelson. and
C. C. Cook.
The committee also announced
plans to build a new Farmers
Federation building in Murphy, re
placing the present structure to
serve the rapidly developing agri
culture of Cherokee County. Ad
ditional stock has been issued to
finance this building, and con
struction will be started in the
spring.
Serving* the farmers of Western
North Carolina since 1920, the
Farmers Federation now has more
than 27,000 stockholders located
throughout the area.
During the past year over
$5,700,000 was paid by the Feder
ation to W. N. C. farmers for mils
eggs, poultry, tobacco, and other
farm products.
The organization now operates
25 county warehouses and eight
freezer locker plants in addition to
a poultry dressing plant, hatchery
and Skyline Dairies, locatcd in
Asheville.
