JENKINS DIES SUNDAY Swain Farmer Waa 80 Years Old; Rites Held On Tuesday William Atkins Jenkins, 80-year old farmer, died of pneumonia Sunday at 12:45 p. m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mar- 1 tin Wykle, in the Liberty com munity. Mr. Jenkins became ill about a 1 week before his death. Dp to | then he "worked like an 18-year old" at farming, according to 1 members of his family. Funeral services for the Swain County native were conducted ; Tuesday at 1 p. m. at the Liberty Baptist Church by the Rev. Pete Meisner. Burial was In the church cemetery. Born September 4, 1874, Mr. Jenkins was the son of Alex and Mrs. Alice Marr Jenkins. He was a Seventh Day Adventist and was | married in 1901 to Miss Hattie Donaldson, of Murphy. He had fcieen living with his daughter | here for about a year. Surviving are a son, Scotson J. j Jenkins, of Freeland; three daugh ters, Mrs. Katie Cochran, of Alarka, Mrs. Grace Cherry, of Mathis, Tex., and Mrs. Martin Wykle, of Franklin, Route 4; a j brother, John Jenkins, of Waynes ville; a sister, Mrs. Laura Dehart, of Grovesville, Tenn.; 16 grand children; and six great-grandchil dren. Serving as pallbearers were Buel Mason, Frank Wykle, Pratt Dalton, Carol Gibson, Arthur Shepard, and Harley Shepard. Potts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. An outstanding proved Jersey bull, Sybil Owl Esmond, is now available to 65 North Carolina artificial breeding associations. Sybil's first 26 daughters have averaged 11,260 pounds of milk and 564 pounds of fat on a twice daily 305-day mature basis. McClure Injured In Auto Collision Monday Evening A 19-yearo)d Gneiss man is re covering at Angel Hospital from injuries he received early Mon day evening on NC 28 when the automobile in which he was a passenger was Involved in a head on collision with another auto mobile. The hospital yesterday < Wed nesday! reported the injured man, William Edward McClure, was recovering satisfactorily. He received lacerations of the face and a concussion. The driver of the car in which Mr. McClure was a passenger was identified as Jack Sheridan Mc Coy, 21. also of Gneiss. Highway Patrolman A. A. Lewis, the investi gating officer, said the McCoy automobile, traveling south, hit head-on with a north-bound car driven by Ben Oiles. 47. of Frank lin, Route 4. as McCoy attempted to pass another vehicle. The pa trolman said McCoy's 1952 Chev rolet skidded 188 feet, threw Mr. McClure out on the shoulder of the highway, and then skidded 20 more feet into a power pole near the intersection of the Burning town Road. McCoy has been charged with drunk driving, the officer said. Damage to Mr. Giles' 1949 Ford was estimated at $400, and the McCoy Chevrolet ?800. John R. Guffey and Purman Allen, both of Franklin. ?oute 4. -were listed by the patnratan as witnesses to the wreck, which happened about 6:30.
