Macon Man Fined
For Making False
Unemployment Claim
Dan H. Brabson. of Otto, was
fined $25 and costs by Justice of
the Peace Sam J. Murray on
Tuesday for making a false state
ment to obtain unemployment
compensation for veterans, ac
cording to an announcement by
William Heyward. claims deputy
for the Employment Security
Commission of this district.
Mr. Brabson entered a plea of
guilty to the charge and was re
leased after paying the fine and
costs. Mr. Heyward said tha
charge grew out of a section of
the General Statutes stating that
a person will not be eligible to
draw any further benefits for one
year from the date he filed his
first claim for benefits.
Mr. Heyward, who has charge
of all prosecutions for violations
of the criminal section of the law
in this district, said the commis
sion is making a "vigorous effort
to prevent payment of fraudulent
claims." He pointed out that a ?
special unit, known as the Fraud
Prevention and Detection Unit,
has been set up in the Raleigh
office for that purpose. All cases
of fraud are prosecuted, he said.
