A committee, composed of Ted Blaine, Richard Bingham, Mrs. Homer Cochran, and Mrs. R. D. Wells, was appointed to select three prizes for the winners of a contest the community will con duct later in the year. A report was made to the ef fect that work on telephones for the community will bei>in this spring. 4 Macon Men Enlist During Month In Navy Pour Macon County men en listed in the U. S. Navy during February and are now taking bas ic training at the U. S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, 111., L. E. Pay, chief petty officer in charge of the Ashevllle recruiting station, announced this week. The men are Max Stewart, of Franklin, and Dennis A. Talley, Cecil D. Dryman, and William E. Owens, all of Scaly. Of the 929,063 children enrolled in this state's public schools in 1953, 652,662 were white and 276,401 Negro. Fifty-two years old. he was the J son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Love i Hyatt and he moved away from here about 19 years ago. Mr. Hyatt is survived by his wife, the former Miss Bonnie Brooks, daughter of the late C. S. Brooks, of Franklin: three sons, Edwin, of Darrington, Glen, of Everett, Wash., and Morris, of California; four brothers, J. P. Hyatt, of Franklin, Route 4, R. B. and Frank Hyatt, both of Sylva, and Avery Hyatt, of Mor ganton; and two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Stiles, of Clearlake, Wash., and Mrs. Bertha Woodard, of Sylva.
