Highlands summer resident for some 30 years, died of injuries received in an automobile near Decatur, Tenn., the night of March 28, it has been learned here. It is also understood that Mrs. Michael's granddaughter and her infant child died in the one-car | accident. The three were on their way ; to Florida, via Highlands, from Cincinnatti, Ohio. Mrs. Michael died a short time | after the accident in an Athens hospital. She was well-known in High lands circles for her beautiful j flower gardens. Pfc. James Member Of Pistol Team At Camp Drake, Japan Pfc. Tom E. James. 21, son of Mrs. Lawton P. James, of High lands. is a member of the 999th Armored Field Artillery Battal ion's pistol team at Camp Drake. Japan, the Army Home Town News Center announced this week. Pfc. James is regularly assigned as a cannoneer with the battalion, a part of the IX Corps Artillery. He entered the army in July, 1953. and took basic training at Camp Rucker, Ala. He attended Highlands High School. RITES FOR CHILD HELD Graveside rites for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Fink, of Gastonia, were held Saturday there. The child's grandfather, Will Rogers, lives in Highlands. He made his fifth parachute jump with the 82nd Airborne Di vision at Fort Bragg and became m qualified paratrooper. A West Point graduate, Col. Sloan Is the son of W. N. Sloan. During World War II he served as Q ? 3 (operations officer) of the 7th Infantry Division In the Aleutians and at Kwajeleln and later In Europe with XIX Corps. In the Korean War, the colonel was Commander of the 37th "Wolfhound" Infantry, of the 25th Infantry Division. He currently is assigned to the office of the Secretary of Defense in Washington, D. C.
