Re cently only two served on the Highlands committee. The reduction in the size of the Franklin and Nantahala committees and the appoint ment of the three committees was accomplished In a single motion, made by member C. C. Sutton and seconded by mem ber O. F. Summer. Earlier, Mr. Summer had moved the reelection of Mr. McSwaln and Mr. Sutton had seconded that motion. Both motions were passed without discussion. On both, Chairman Erwin W. Patton voted with the other two members. The only other action was an informal decision to appoint, at a later date, advisory commit tees of three members for each school In this district. The duties of those committees will be outlined by the board from time to time, it was said. Within the next few days, Mr. McSwaln said, the new commit teemen will be mailed official notifications of their appoint ments. They are expected to be sworn In and hold meetings soon. Thursday's meeting was the second for the new county board of education. Thursday night of the week before, the three members had been offi cially sworn In and had elected Mr. Patton as chairman. The board was appointed by a legislative act, ratified April 4, Introduced by Representative G. L. Houk. The act reduced the board membership from five to three, and named the three appointed in place of five nom inated in last spring's primary election. Following last week's brief session, the board members and Supt. McSwaln inspected the gymnasium construction work under way at the Franklin school, and then drove to Bry son City to attend a district school board meeting. -/See'tntr Held Here To Study C.A.P. Extension Fails To Raisa Red Cross Quota In County A 15-day extension has failed - to raise the $3,750 quota set 1 for the local American Red Cross fund drive, Mrs. Elizabeth McCoilum, executive secretary, reported yesterday (Wednes day). i With the end of the extension I last Thursday, only $2,029.70 was :0n hand, she has reported. Many contribution figures still have not been reported by com munity organizations and in- j dividual solicitors, the secre tary said. "It is important that this year's drive be closed at once, whether we m,ake the quota or : not ... It Is interfering with ; the success of other drives now I in progress", Mrs. McCoilum i noted. Among communities requested ; to make reports immediately are 1 , Clark's Chapel, Burningtown Gneiss, Mulberry, and Prentiss. The annual drive was sched- . uled to run during March only, j but the extension was granted in the hope the quota might be : reached. I , | ... THE SICK .- | Angel Hospital Mrs. Sherman M.
