This Week With Macon County Agents By MRS. FORENCE 8. SHERR1LL (COuaty Home Agent) Mrs. Ralph Bradley, county health leader of the 24 home demonstration club*, has set the good example In her own com munity of Oak Grove of what can be done in a health project. Mrs. Bradley attended a district health meeting two years ago before the chest X-ray mobile unit came to Macon County. She returned to her community and with the help of the club members divided Oak Grove into sections so that every family was con tacted about the free X-ray. As a result, all members of Oak Grove Club came to the mobile unit and JOHNNY MILLER, popular radio star of WTOB soys, "My wifo has always used light Karo for cooking . . . and on the table ? it's dork Karo for me, the best-tasting eating syrup of 'em all" Yes, indeed... biscuits go like hot cakes when you pour on plenty of delicious dark Karo . there's nothing like it for good eating. Satia fyin' flavor. So rich it stands right up on top of biscuits (keeps 'em light and fluffy). Keep Karo on your table morning, noon and night ... it tope anything! Ask your grocer for DARK Karo, in pint and quart bottles the club members believe that at least 90 per cent of the adults In the community also had the X-ray. The Oak Grove women not only contacted their neigh bors. they offered transportation If It was needed. Mrs. Bradley was glad to work with the local public health nurse, Mrs. Mae Shope, In planning a demonstra tion, "Your Health." for the month of April.* Mrs. Shope re quested the film, "You Can Help", to be shown to over 500 club women. The film told the story of the National Tuberculosis As sociation and what has been done through the years to bring the white plague from first place as a killer to fourth place along with other communicable diseases. Rural women believe that pre ventive medicine Is the best medi cine and that is the reason that Macon County has the record of many adults going to the Cancer Detection Clinic at Sylva. The women tell their neighbors that the clinic is located in the base ment of the C. J. Harris Hospital; that it is open each Friday from 9 to 10:15 for registration; that the examination Is free; and that every woman over 35 should be screened in the clinic. "Man Alive" is a 10-mlnute film the club women have seen lng with fear and what a simple fear can do in a person's life. Homemakers realize that beautiful homes, modern conveniences, edu cation and other facullties are an enjoyment of life, but are of little value to people unless they are well. 80 they are using all avail able health resources. When the chest X-ray mobile unit comes to Macon County It will be the con cern of the homemakers to be their "Brother's Keepers" in en couraging every adult in Macon County to come for the X-ray. All through the year, and not just through April, when the funds are being raised by the American. Cancer Society, the women are saying, "Have you been for your examination at the detection clinic?" "Don't be fearful, but be careful" is a good slogan for any day in the year, for any family member. r Give your home a BEAUTY TREATMENT t ? COME ON iN- I * the price is fine i HOTTEST-SELLING BUICK IN HISTORY No wonder you see so many '55 Buicks on the high ways ? they're rolling up bigger sales than ever before in history? topping the popularity that has already made Buick one of the "Big Three" of America's best sellers. * 2380-88 * ^"crcc/ /0ca//y, ^ S.2da"wodeM8en?r ' 5PeCl^ local faxes if J !,0|o ?"d Prices may yory |.n^' ?ddiri onal. !?9 comJniZZ 'Elf"', ,odioi" psaiZ S?o',.y0# mo" ??'? Unless we miss our guess, a lot of sur prised people are going to do some new back-of-an-envelope arithmetic when they see the Buick price shown here. Because we know that many folks still don't realize how little a Buick really costs? that the dollar difference between this big Buick Special and the leading smaller cars has virtually disappeared. Buick Salog Are Soaring A? Never Belore But more and more of them are finding it out. And that's a major reason why Buick production and Buick sales are soaring to all-time highs today? and why Buick again is outselling all other cars, regardless of price range, except two of the well-known smaller cars. Big reason, too, for this soaring popularity is Buick's full line of automobiles, giving you a choice in any price class? the rock-bottom priced Special, the high-powered Century, the supremely spacious Super, and the custom-built Roadmaster. But above all, more and more people are discovering that the price you pay for a Buick buys more sheer automobile than the same money buys elsewhere. More advanced styling, more deep-down comfort, more pure power thrill, more ride steadiness and handling ease and solidity of structure. More spectacular performance, too, from the modest extra cost of Buick's automatic transmission. For here you get Variable Pitch Dynaflowf ?the new wonder drive born of modern aeronautics to give you instant full-power getaway and acceleration when needed? and far better gas mileage when cruising. Why not come see us this week, for sure? We'll be happy to have you test-pilot a new Buick, just for the sheer thrill of it? and show you quite clearly that if you can afford any new car, you can afford a Buick. fDynaflow Drive is standard on Road master, optional at extra cost on other Series. *? ? ^ MILTON itRLE STARS FO* 1UICK-S? tK? t?ricfc-6*rU Show Altamot* Ttwidoy Ewnlngt WHEN BETTCI AUTOMOBILES AM ?UIIT ?UICK Will IUIIO THEM ?
