Yesterday - and - Today ?
Franklin is 100 years old, and we are only one! But we hope
to grow with Franklin.
And we're proud to be in business in such a grand town.

Saw Franklin
When It Was
One Year Old
The following item is taken
from The Franklin Press of May

Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Miles, of
Cleveland, Georgia, were in
Franklin last week just to see
I if the town looked like it did
74 yean ago. Mrs. Miles was
1 Miss Jane Guest, of Orange
County. Her first trip to Macon
County was on a camping trip
during tM summer of 1856. The
stores here thee were owned by
I Uncle Jack Johnston and Uncle
Nath Allman. At that time, they
bought goods in Charleston, S.
I C., and it took six weeks to
make a market trip. Mrs. Miles
said Franklin had certainly
changed since she saw it 74
years ago.

Masonic Lodge
Here Formed
Except for the churches, Juna
luskee Lodge No. 145. A. F. and
A. M., undoubtedly is the oldest
organization in Franklin.
It was organized "at early
candlelight, or shortly after 5
o'clock, on the afternoon of De
cember 4, 1851" ? nearly 104 1
? years ago ? according to G. L.
! Houk's history of local Masonry,
j It was the second Masonic
lodge west of the Blue Ridge
> Mountains. 1 ?
How times have changed!
But in one respect, Franklin and Macon
County are the same? it's still a GOOD PLACE
to LIVE.

Now
for the NEXT
100 Years
?
ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO ? Franklin was a tiny
village struggling for existence. Today it is a thriving commun
ity, looking forward to its second century of progress ? confi
dent of an even more prosperous future.
We at Nantahala Power and Light Company have been
privileged to participate in Franklin's progress for the last 22
of the town's first 100 years, and have seen some wonderful
changes take place in that short period of time. We share
Franklin s confidence in a greater future and are continually
planning, working and building to keep ahead of your ever
increasing need for electric power ? now and for the next 100
years.
