News About PEOPLE RICKY BROGDEN GIVEN PARTY ON BIRTHDAY Mrs. Ed Brogden entertain^: with a party last Thursday after noon, celebrating her son's, Rick> Brogden, sixth birthday. Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter and three children have returned to their home in Hazel Park. Mich., after spending a week here with Mrs. Hunter's mother, Mrs. Ze'o Conley. Judy Hunter, their daugh ter, remained in Franklin to be with her grandmother the re mpinder of the summer. Miss Rose King left Monday for Norfolk. A work party was made up for Saturday morning to complete the basketball goal at the com munity building. Garden Club Decides On Card Party The Franklin Garden Club met Monday afternoon with Mrs. A. R. Higdon, at her home on the Georgia Road. Mrs. J,. Horner Stockton and Miss Gladys Sellers were co-hostesses. Mrs. J. Ward Long, president, presided. Dr. Amelia Kahn gave a talk on garden therapy. i Mrs. Lyman Higdon and Mrs. j W. A. Rogers, co-chairmen of the : ways and means committee, gave | a report. It was decided by the i club to have a bridge and canasta party Friday night, August 19, at ! the Franklin High School cafe teria. Mrs. R. G. Lichtenstein, chair man of the flower show commit tee, gave her report, and plans were completed for the club's flow er show, to be held August 12-13. Mrs. Prelo Dryman, beautifica tion chairman, gave a report. Refreshments were served by the hostesses. Twenty members were present. Mrs. Hooker's Father Dies In Tennessee Fred Miller, father of Mrs. W. K. Hooker, of Franklin, died Tues day afternoon at his home in Loudon, Tenn., following a short illness. Mrs. Hooker, who had been with him in his illness, was joined by her family there Tuesday night. 9-Church Sunday School Group To Meet At Iotla A nine-church Sunday School group plans to meet Sunday aft- j ernoon at 2:30 with the Iotla i Baptist Church, it has been an-l nounced. Dr. Mann explained in a talk that the recorder is an old Instrument and was used durine the time of Henry VIII. Mrs. Weimar Jones, president, welcomed the new members. Mrs. W. R. Belle.
