A Breedlsve, 12'j acres 105 Mrs. Jones Given Surprise Party On 93rd Birthday Mrs. George A. Jones was honored, on the occasion of her 93rd birthday last Thursday, with a surprise canned goods shower, given by the F. 8. Johnston Sunday School class of the Franklin Methodist ! Church. The regular class meeting fell on that day, so Mrs. Jones had no reason, before she ar rived, to think the meeting would be unusual. But an attractive birthday cake, made by the hostess, Miss Eliza Siler, graced the table. On the cake were 16 lighted candles. And the honoree was show ered with many kinds of can ned goods. Remembering how punctilious she is about her thank-you notes, and wishing to relieve her of that duty, members of the class, in presenting the gifts, assured Mrs. Jones no notes were wcpected, and jok ingly added that any she might write would be "refused at the post office". In expressing her thanks orally, Mrs Jones told the group j the thoughtfulness and kind ness of friends was a constant solirce of encouragement and , inspiration, adding that recol | lection of the kindnesses ex ; tended her by so many, over I so many years, "makes every i day seem like a birthday", i Throughout the day, and on into the week-end. she receiv ed many gifts, visits, ancl greet ings by mail. Mrs. Jones, who lives in what was her great-grandfather's home, "the houste at the foot of the hill" on West Main Street, was born in Franklin, August 25, 1862. The army estimates its expenses in fiscal 1956 lor disciplinary matters would to'al $347,000. Woody. Grover C.. 26 acres 7.00 Woody, J. C. M.. 12l2 acres . l/)5 COWEE Name Acreage > Ameunt Al'-er..
