T. Carter, of High lands, was guest speaker at the | Franklin Garden Club meeting September 12 at the home of j Mrs. Allan Brooks. She spoke on bulb planting and horticul ture and was introduced by club member, Mrs. E. S. Pur dom. v Mrs. J. Ward Long, president, announced that the district meeting would be held in High lands on October 19. Reports from various com mittees were heard. Mrs. J. E. S. Thorpe was co hostess with Mrs. Brooks. A theme of yellow was carried out in the decorations and refresh ments, which were served on the terrace. Yellow gladioli were used on the tea table. Approximately 25 members and out-of-town guests were present. Tellico Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Smith, of Alkkn, S. C., visited her father, Rufus McOaha, and his broth ers, Judd and Arlin Smith, and families recently. Billy Ramsey, small son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ramsey, of Charleston, S. C., is spending a few days visiting his grand mother, Mrs. Robert Ramsey. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Smith and family, of Rock Hill, S. C., visited his brothers, Jud and Arlin Smith and family, and sister, Miss Beauna Smith, re cently. Mr. and Mrs. Creed DeHart and children, of Asheville, spent the week-end visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vance DeHart. MOORE (Community Reporter) Demonstrations of Boy Scout I work marked a meeting of the Carson Rural Community De velopment Organization Sep tember 9 at the community building. The Rev. David Barkley, scoutmaster of Troop 6, was present with his Scouts to give the community an idea of the work the troop is doing. James Graham, troop leader, Charles Garner, Allen Garner, Robert Wallace, Doyle Cloer, and Doyle McCracken demon strated first aid, gave the Scout laws, and used a signal system to send messages. All of this was very interesting for those attending the meeting. Score sheets were given out and plans were made for the final work of the contest year. Mrs. John Cunningham has donated 30 books to the com munity library, bringing her total to 117. Many of the young people are using the library. Higdon Leaves Home To Return To Panama Alfred R. Higdon, Jr., left last week for Coco Solo, Pana ma, where he is assigned to duty with the U. S. Navy. Son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Higdon, he has been on leave here for the past 28 days. His father and brother, Tom, j drove him to Jacksonville, Fla., J where he boarded a plane for I Panama. Dinnes Spends Leave In Europe With Mother, Brother MUNICH, GERMANY. ? Army Pvt. William D. Dinnes, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Dinnes, of Franklin, N. C., Route 3, re cently spent a leave in Germ any and Denmark, accompani 1 ed by his mother and brother. Pvt. Dinnes is regularly as signed as a staff driver in I Headquarters Company of the 5th Infantry Division's 2nd Regiment. He entered the army in November, 1954, and com pleted basic training at Fort Sill, Okla. He arrived in Europe last April. He , is a graduate of Frank lin High School. ? Gneiss By MRS. F. E.
