Between 500 and 600 people attended two performances of the senior class play last week, "if Mother Only Knew." a three-act comedy, was given Saturday night at the East Franklin Auditorium to an audience of about 50 and was given Monday at the Macon Theatre to more than 500 Frank lin School students. "The True In Heart." a one-act drama, was also given by members of the Dramatics Club. Receipts from tickets totaled $148. Of the $128 profit made, 75% went to the senior class and 25% to the Dramatics Club. The play was halted after the first act Monday morning because it was thought that the school buses would have to run on ac count of snow, but the other two acts were finished Monday after noon after it quit snowing. Both plays were directed by J. D. Henson. A previous perform ance was given in December. * ik * I Several pieces of new equipment were purchased for the school by Harry C. Corbln, principal, on a recent trip to Raleigh. Mostly government surplus, the purchases j included an amplifying system, three typewriters, warming robes ! for football players, floor mats J and tarpaulins for the new gym nasium, and deodorant spray for classrooms. S. enter this contest annually. ? ? ? The Franklin High Photography Club is currently sponsoring a photography contest. Entries tak en since June 1 by students from any Macon County School, grades six through 13 are eligible. Entry fee is SO cents per picture. The contest will be open from January 16 to February 29. Pictures will be classified a.s school activities, people, pictor ials and animals and pets. Prizes will be, first, camera tri pod; second, developer; and third, photographer's gadget bag. The proceeds from the contest will go to install equipment in the darkroom at Franklin High. Jackson T. Roper Gets Discharge From Service As S/Sgt. | Jackson T. Roper recently was discharged from the U. S. Air Force with the grade of sergeant after serving four years. He and his family are now liv ing in Marietta, Ga., where he is employed as a jet flight line mechanic with Lockheed. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Leland B. Roper, of Franklin, Route 3, Mr. Roper enlisted December 1, 1951, and received his basic train ing at Lackland Air Force Base. Tex. He was graduated from the jet mechanic school at Amarillo, Tex., and served with the air train ing command. LITTLETON PREACHES The Rev. B. B. Littleton, of Franklin, was the guest minister in the Shortoff Baptist Church Sunday. He will also deliver the message on the first Sunday in February. The church is at pre sent without a pastor.
