Otto Plans Benefit Dance Friday For March Of Dimes By MRS. W. M. PARRISH 'Community Reporter) A benefit square dance for the March of Dimes will be sponsor ed tomorrow i Friday) night at Otto School by the community organization. It will start at 7:30. The Black Mountain String Band will play for the event. At its January 13 meeting, the community discussed a number of projects for the coming contest year. However, there were not many present, so this will be tak en up again at a later date. The president, Gline Holland, read a letter from W. W. Sloan, of Nantahala Power and Light Company, congratulating the com munity for winning the annual Christmas lighting contest. A check for $30 was the prize re- ! ceived by the community. A meeting of the Cartoogechaye Rural Community Development Organization, marked by a spell ing bee, was held at the school on January 19 with the president. Laddie Crawford, presiding. The name of Julian Maddox was added to the list of families wish- 1 ing to take advantage of the Farm and Home Development Program. It was decided to change the meeting place to the community center at Nonah Crafts. The community newssheet, "The Cartooge-Jay Bird', was com mended and additional copies were ordered by the group. After a lively spelling bee <at which it was interesting to note that the youngsters spelled dowr the older folk) refreshments were served. Blaine Is Graduated From Airborne School At Fort Campbell, Ky. Pvt. Theodore R. Blaine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mrs. Earl Blaine, of Franklin, Route 1, has been grad uated from the Basic Airborne School at Fort Campbell, Ky., it has been announced. Pvt. Blaine entered service In April, 1955, took his basic training at Fort Jackson, S. C.. and receiv ed eight weeks of additional train ing at Fort Campbell. With the end of this training, he volunteer ed for airborne service.
