2 Macon Students > In College Band Two students from Macon County are members of the Mars Hill College Band, which Is on It* second annual concert tour this week They are Miss Patricia Sue Mc Falls, daughter of E. C. McFalls. of Franklin. Route 3, and Miss Nancy Louise Angel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Angel, of Franklin. Both are freshmen at the Bap tist junior college and are taking liberal art courses. The band will close its tour tomorrow (Friday) after giving concerts at high schools In Marlon. Statesvtlle. Winston-Salem Thorn asvllle, Laurlnburg, Wadesboro. and Mount Holly. Hours will be 10 a. m. to 3 p. m. The theme this year Is "His Commission ? Our Mission." Mrs. Hoyt Bryson, associatlon al superintendent, will preside. The publicity chairman, Mrs. W. N. Cook, said representatives from each of the 42 churches ip the county are expected. A "covered dish" lunch will be served at 12:45. Guest speakers at the meet ing (will be Miss Martha Haris ton, missionary from Brazil, and Mrs. John Wacaster, a state worker. Others appearing on the pro gram will be Mrs. Wayne Stat on, associate division superin tendent, Mrs. Eula Dalrymple, Mrs. Robert C. Parker, Mrs. A. D. Carter, the Rev. John R. Willis, Mrs. Lee Wood, Mrs. Cecil Crawford, Mrs. H. W. Pitts, Mrs. J. D. Franks, Mrs. W. N. years' service, at Fort Sill, Okla., on Friday. Special music will be by Mrs. Howard Barnwell, Miss Mildred Corbln, and Mrs. Ed Brogden Kentucky Quartet To Appear Here The King's Men Quartet, of Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, Ky., will sing at Riv erview Methodist Church, Sat urday evening at 7:30; Snow Hill Methodist Church, Sunday, 11 a. m.; and Iotla Methodist Church, Sunday at 7:30 p. m. At each ol these services, there also will be a preaching service. Benefit At Otto Set To Help Building A talent show, box supper, and cake walk is set at Otto School, May 4, at 7:30 p. m? sponsored by Coweeta Baptist Church. Pro ceeds will go to help build the new church. M Highlands Garden Women Elect Officers At Meeting HIGHLANDS. ? Highlands Garden Club has elected officers for the new year. They are Mrs. J. Manson Val entine, president; Miss Blanche Davenport, vice-president; Miss Dorothea Harbison, recording secretary; Mrs. Helen Louns bury, corresponding secretary; and Miss Gertrude Harbison, treasurer. At the club's April 19 meet ing at the home of Mrs. Thom as Tyson, guest speaker was Pat Int-Hout, ranger of the Highlands District. He used col or slides to illustrate his lecture on destroying trees with no market value to make room for more desirable grades. He also told of the damage the white pine beetle has done in this area and the methods of ex termination being used. The ranger used slides to show progress on the new road Into Blue Valley, which will make a new picnic ground ac cessible to the public in the near future. Among projects discussed at the meeting was a silver tea, to . be given at the Flat Mountain home of Mrs. A. T. Carter on June 21, (or the benefit of the Elizabethan Gardens. It was suggested that a com mittee be appointed for tb? purpose of maintaining the up keep of projects undertaken last year for the continued beautifl catlon of Highlands. Tea was served by the hos tess, Mrs. Tyson, who was as sisted1 by Mrs. Mel Keener and Mrs. Gordon Burriss. The next club meeting will be May 17. , Mrs. Clark Is Honored On 68th Birthday Here Mrs. J. L. Clark was honored on her 68th birthday with a din ner last Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Vernon Bry son, of Franklin, Route 5. Seven of Mrs. Clark's eight children were present, and more than 35 friends and relatives.
