Recommendation for a new courthouse came from the entire 18-man jury. The men inspecting the court house, jurymen Fred Dehart, Clyde Morgan, and Tom Alley re ported: "The courthouse was found in very poof condition. It needs a new paint job, cleaner rest roomr.; the register of deeds' office needs more space for files; the clerk of court's office needs more filing space and room; the sheriff's of fice needs more space . . E3mer Roten, John Conley, ' Claude Conley, Floyd Ramsey, Reld Elliott, and Vernon Cunning ham inspected the county Jail. Their findings: "The jail is being kept In an extra good manner, but more space Is badly needed. Of tentimes, prisoners must be trans ported to other jails for the sim ple reason that there is not suf ficient room, according to law. to accommodate them. We have ref erence to mixed sex and also to minors and mixed races. Addition al space could be made at a min imum expense to the county." Foreman of the grand jury was George R. Pattillo. BETH GIFFEY (Supervisor) On Friday morning, April 13, 31 well-groomed eighth graders of Cullasaja School left home to spend the day In Atlanta, Oa. They traveled in the athletic bus, which the school purchased ear lier in the year. Arriving in Atlanta about 9:39, the class visited Grant Park, where they saw the Cyclorama. This was the highlight of the trip, but much enthusiasm was shown over the tour of the cap itol building. The girls would Locals Going To W. S. C. S. Area Meeting The 16th annual district meet ing of the woman's Society of Christian service will be held at the Cherokee Methodist Church today (Thursday) from 10 a. in. until 2:30 p. m. Miss Laura M. Jones, president, from the Franklin society, will preside. Mrs. Eva Cunningham, of the local Weslyean Service Guild, is the district secretary. A number from the Macon County societies are expected to attend. Among those from the Franklin Church are Mrs. H. W. Cabe, president of the local socie ty, Miss Margaret Wilson, and Mrs. S. B. Moss. Mrs. Palmer And Infant Die In Texas Mrs. Carol Norton Palmer, a native of this county, and her newborn daughter, Sharon Lynn, died April 16 in an Athens, Tex., hospital. Wife of Richard Palmer, of Palestine, Tex., she was the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed L. Norton, of Otto. She and Mr. Palmer were married November 3. 1952. Funeral services were held there. Surviving, in addition to the husband and parents, are two brothers. Maurice Norton, of Otto, and Harold Norton, of Lincoln, Neb. Miss Cabe Initiated Into College Sorority Miss Nancy Cabe, a junior at Florida Southern College, Lake land, Fla? last week was initiated into Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack S. Cabe. she is majoring in home economics. Active in campus af fairs, Miss Cabe is secretary of the Home Economics Club, Future Teacher* of America. Weaver Shope, Mrs. Joyce Cagle, grade teacher, and Mr. and Mrs. Harley Stanfield, Jr. Grist's Father Dies In Hospital Charlie A Grist, of Dillard, Ga., died April 10 at Angel Hospital. He was the father of Paul L. Grist, of Scaly. Funeral services for Mr. Grist, who was 74. were conducted on the 11th at 3 p. m. at the Dillard Baptist Church, of which he was a deacon and a life-long member. Officiating was the church pastor, the Rev. J. L. Plttman, assisted by the Rev. De Collins. Burial was In the church cemetery. Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Nannie Bleckley, of Perry, Ga., a sister, Mrs. W. L. Hurst, of Toccoa, Ga.: a brother. T. M. Grist, of Rabun Gap, .Ga.; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Cannon Funeral Home, Clayton, was in charge of arrangements.
