Programs Of A. S. C. Confusing Local Office Manager Cites Facts Of Each The Soil Bank's "Acreage Re serve Program, the "Conservation Reserve Program", and the "Agri cultural Conservation Program" are causing some confusion a mong farmers and the public in general as to their functions, ac cording to Mi$s Mildred Corbir. i office manager of the local A.S.C.. which administers the programs. As a means of clearing up some of the confusion, she lists the J following facts about each: ACREAGE RESERVE: This pro gram pertains only to allotment crops. So far. only tobacco and wheat are Macon County's eligi ble commodities. This program pays farmers for taking allotment crops out of production. The sign up period ended March 1, 1957. The Acreage ' Reserve Program covers only one year at a time and the acreage placed in the | reserve is not to be harvested or i grazed during that year. CONSERVATION RESERVE: This program is available to farmers who wish to reduce plant ings of cash crops on their farm and carry out additional conserva tion on the farm. Corn and small grains harvested are about the only crops grown in this county to be converted. The farmer would take out of production and put to conservation use the amount he places in the reserve. Acreage placed in the reserve must be crop land. The farmer will receive up to 80 percent of the cost of estab lishing the conservation practice ! on the reserve acreage and second, he will receive an annual renial J payment during the year the con- ! tract is in cffect. The sign-up for I conservation ends April 15, 1957. I Agricultural Conservation Pro gram: Although similar as to practices, the A.C.P. is not to be confused with the Soil Bank's Con servation Reserve Program. The A.C.P. is the same program A .S C. has had many years and the one through which farmers receive as sistance in carrying out needed soil and water conservation prac tices on their farms. This pro gram is now at its peak in this county. Farmers desiring more informa tion on the above programs should visit the AS.C. office. Sanders Awaiting Transfer To Navy Ship At Norfolk John J.
