T.50 Three Years . , 0.00 Editorial Material on Page 2, 2nd .Section Student Bus Drivers Set Contest Here Five senior student school bus drivers from Nantahala and Franklin are slated to compete in a 'School Bus Road-e-o" next Wednesday to determine who is going to represent Macon CouTity in district competition in June. Actual driving skill tests be tween th? youthful drivers will be conducted in the parking area be hind Franklin High School begin ning at 1 p. m. Earlier, they will take written tests. Bonds and cash totaling $110 await the winners, according to Joe Sherrill, of Bryson City, a state "safety representative over seeing the contest. A $50 bond has been donated by the Rotary Club, a $25 bond by the Lions Club, $25 bond by Franklin Hosiery Com pany, and $10 cash by Van Raalt Hosiery Company. The prizes will be divided among the top three winners as follows: $75 in bonds, 1st place; $25 bond, 2nd; and $10 cash, 3rd. With the assistance of the Frank lin Jaycees, the bus driver proj ect is being conducted by the N. C. Department of Public Instruc tion, the State Board of Educa tion, and the Department of Mo tor Vehicles. Mr. Sherrill said Highlands High did not have a student driv er eligible to compete. Rules stipu late a contestant must have driv en a bus one year (nine months). East Franklin Students Leaving For Raleigh Today W. G. Crawford's eighth grade students at East Franklin School leave for Raleigh this morning (Thursday) for a sightseeing trip which will take them to the cam puses of the University of North Carolina and Duke University and to the capitol, where the leg islature is now in session. Accompanying the students will be Mr. Crawford, who also is East Franklin principal, and Mrs. Harve Bryant and Mrs. Charles Fergu son, parents. The group expects to return home Saturday evening. The trip will be made by charter ed bus, funds for which were raised through class projects. Taylor, wife of the assoctstlonal missionary here, was re-elected superintendent of the Macon Baptist Association Wom en's Missionary Union at its an nual meeting Friday. Pifty-slx representatives from the county's W. M. U. associations attended the meeting, held at the First Baptist Church. Theme for the gathering was "The Field Is the World". Other officers chosen were Mrs. Paul Kinsland. associate superin tendent, and Mrs. Jeter Higdon, secretary-treasurer, both of whom were re-elected; Mrs. Clyde Rhine heart, youth leader; Mrs. Herman Mason. Y. W. A. leader; Mrs. Jack Cabe, G. A. leader: Mrs. Hoyt Bry son. Sunbeam leader; Mrs. Elsie Smith, community missions chair man; Mrs. J. D. Highlands Women Erecting Exhibit For National Week HIGHLANDS ? The home dem onstration club here will observe "National Home Demonstration Week" with an exhibit of things club members have made in the past year.
