AT CARSON CHAPEL 'Tt-T. , Miss Houston Marries Grady Greene Miss Carolyn Jean Hoitoiou daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Houston, of Franklin, became the' bride of Grady J. Greene, son or Mr. and Mrs. Homer Qren*. qf Franklin, Route 1, Sunday night at 7:30 at the Carson Chapel Methodist Church. The Rev A. Rufus Morgan. Episcopal minister, performed the double-ring ceremony before the altar, which was decorated with native greenery, baskets of white gladioli, and lighted candles. The couple entered the church together. The bride wore a white embroidered cotton stieet'length dress, designed on Prince* lines Bar shoulder-length veil was at tached to a lace bandeau. She car Aed a white Bible topped with a white orchid. Donna Sanders, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Sanders, served as flower girl. Mrs. B. W. Cabe, pianist, pre sented a program of wedding music. Following the ceremony, the couple received In the vestibule of the church. Mrs. Oreene is a graduate of Franklin High School and has HMD employed at Angel's Drug Store. Mr. Oreene la a graduate of Franklin High School. ? tended Brevard College, Brevard, and served In the D. S. Air Force. He is now employed by Eastern Air I lines in Atlanta, Oa. After a wedding trip, the couple will live in Atlanta. Frank Holland Says There's No Need To Make A Fuss Over His Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Holland "We've had a happy life togeth er." said Prank Holland this week, "and that's plenty -for us. There's no need to make a fuss over our golden wedding anniversary." Nevertheless, be and Mrs. Hol land consented to a picture. It shows them with two things which have meant much to them all their lives: the Bible and flowers. Mr. Holland felt the call to preach after he was married. He has "pastored" a number of churches over the county and is of the Assembly of God faith. He makes his living farming at the Holland home on Stanfield Branch, in Cullasaja community. Mrs. Holland is a student of the Bible, too, but says, "I've never done any preaching. I just try to listen." She did, however, for ! many years teach an adult Sun- j day School class. MRS. JONES' PIANO PUPILS IN RECITAL The piano pupils of Mrs. Wei mar Jones were presented in re cital Friday evening, in the rec reation room of the Franklin Methodist Church. Following her annual custom, at the conclusion of the program Mrs. Jones presented awards for outstanding work during the year. This year's winners were: Jane Cabe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Cabe, of Franklin, for the best scale work; Janice Burrell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Burrell, of the Iotla com munity, highest average grade for the year; and Waynette Higdon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Higdon, for fastest progress and best all around music student. Tom Vinson, a Baptist preacher, married them. Asked if they took a honey moon. Mr. Holland said. "Folks didn't have much time or money for a honeymoon in those days. Eveh if we had, I don't guess it would have worked out too well. You see, it was garden planting time." Five children were born to the Hollands, four of whom still are living. They are Miss Edna Hol land, of the home; Ernest Hol land, whose home is up the branch from his parents; Everett Holland, of Pontiac, Mich.; and Mitchell Holland, of Detroit, Mich. MISS POTTS WEDS JAMES W. KEENER HIGHLANDS ? Miss Lois Marie Potts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Potts, of Highlands, and James W. Keener, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Keener, also of High lands, were married April 6 at 4 p. m. at) the First Baptist Church in Walhalla, S. C. The double-ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Eugene Walter, pastor of the First Bap tist Church of Highlands. Miss Lina Potts, sister of the bride, presented a program of nuptial music. The bride wore a light blue suit, with navy and white accessories. Miss Joan Calloway, cousin of the bride, was bridesmaid, and James H. Keener, cousin of the groom, was best man. ' Mrs. Keener is a graduate of Highlands High School and is em ployed by the principal of the school. Mr. Keener, also a graduate of Highlands High School, is attend ing radio and TV school in Clarkesville, Ga. Miss Howard Named T reasurer Of^College Student Association Miss Betty Howard, of Franklin, has been elected treasurer of the Day Student Government Associa tion of Western Carolina College for the 1957-58 academic year.
