Pour drivers of the familial
orange-colored busses which haul
3,200 of Macon (bounty's 4.001
students to and from school, com
peted against each other in a
road-e-o Wednesday of last wee!;.
Each took a written test and
then maneuvered one of the big
buses through a complicated
course laid out on the athletic
field behind Franklin High School.
First place went to Allen Grant,
of Nantahala School. He drives
a route which embraces Otter and
Partridge Creeks and Nantahala.
His prize was ^75 in savings bonds.

School, took second place. Hi,
route runs from 'the high schoo:
to the Georgia line.
Another Franklin High driver,
D. L. Cabe, won the third spot.

Route 2 Man Charged
After Sunday Wreck
A 24-year-old Franklin. Route
2. man has been chart' d with
larceny of a truck, drunk driving
(second offense), reckless driving,
and no driver's license following a
wreck Sunday morning, according
to Highway Patrolman H. T. Fer
guson.
The officer said Carl W. Cabe,
driving a tandem truck owned
by Donald Lee Brookshirc, of
Franklin, lost control' of th 1
vehicle about 6:45 a. m. near Elli
,iay Road on US 64 and knocked
down two mail boxes and a white
pine before hitting a parked pick
up truck some 30 feet off the
pavement.
Damage to Mr. Brook 'lire's
truck was estimated at $1,000.

Dr. Winstead
Gets Conditional
Florida Pardon
Dr. G. Ashby Winstead, Frank
lin physician under 10-year sen
tence for a narcotics violation
in Florida, was given a condi
tional pardon Tuesday by the
State Pardon Board, the Asso
ciated Press reported.
The board specified that Dr.
Winstead remain under super
vision of the parole commls- ,
sion for two years. It acted, al- I
though the parole commission
recommended against the par
don, according to the A.P.
Dr. Winstead was sentenced
late in 1955 for illegally pre
scribing -a narcotic for a pa
tient. He had not started his
sentence because of an appeal
and clemency application.
