(Gene) Baldwin, chairman of the com missioners, for his reaction to the proposed increase in main tenance funds. Mr. Baldwin re plied : "I never like to work 30 to 60 days ahead of time like that. We'll talk it over wben we sit down to go over the budget." The commissioners and board of education agreed to work on the school budget at a joint meeting June 3. Mr. Bueck said he would not be here on July 1, the date the budget normally is adopted. He will be attending the Lions Club convention at San Francisco, Calif., starting June 27. He and Mrs. Bueck plan to Hooker To Preside At Baptist Meet; Chorus Will Sing A large delegation from Macon County will be on hand Tuesday night at the First Baptist Church in Bryson City for the convention of Region 10, N. Commencement exercises are set for May 29. 4-H'ers Win 2 Top Spots Macon County's 4-H clubbers brought home two first places and a number of ribbons from district competition in Asheville April 27. Twenty-eight from here com-| peted in the wide variety of contests. They were accompani ed by County Agent T. H. Fagg, Mrs. Florence S. Demonstration Clubs Give Library Circulation Desk A major fixture was added at the Franklin Library when a circulation desk was install ed, the gift of Macon County's 20 Home Demonstration Clubs. The desk, constructed by E. S. Purdom and Company, of Wayah Valley, is made of oak. A circulation desk is a la rge, specialized piece of library . furniture made to accom modate several patrons at once as well as to provide storage for library cards and 9. small amount of library materials. CALLING SPORTSMEN Sportsmen of Macon County are invited to a meeting May 28 at Sylva with representatives of the Wildlife Resources Commis sion, at which- time the 1957-58 hunting regulations wilL be dis cussed. To begin at 7:30 p. m. at the Jackson County court house, the meeting is for Wild life District 9, which incudes Macon. Student. Gets $300 Grant Miss Birdie Lee Bingham has been awarded a $300 study grant to Pfeiifer College by the Wom en's Society of Christian Service of the Western North Carolina Conference. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Bingham, of Franklin, Route 1, she will be graduated from Brt vard College in June with an as sociate in arts degree. At Pfeiffer. Miss Bingham also has been granted a worlcship in the amount of $25Q and a special scholarship of $100. She plans to major In religion and English. with a minor in education. Miss Bingham has been active in campus aft airs at Brevard.
