because of the death of Mrs. Cor
bin's cousin, W. B. Cook, Jr., who
drowned in Lake Lure.

school bus transportation than
Macon County.
Macon's cost per pupil. $9.25, is
well below the state average of
$10.75 a student per year. Here

The figures are for the school
year 1955-56.
North Carolina hauls more stu
dents to school than any of 16
Southern states. Texas, however,
has 500 more buses.
