No. 4 signaled as the voting place. This brings to is the number of voting precincts in the coun ty The actions were taken by the Elections Board at a meet ing Saturday morning, held In the courthouse office of the Veterans Service Officer. Moore's Motion The motion to break the pre cinct up Into four was made by Fred S. Moore and seconded by Herman Dean, the Republican member of the three-man board. The new registration was ordered on a motion made by Mr. Moore and seconded by Chairman J. Lee Barnard. Mr. Moore moved that the Frank 11a voting place be moved to the Agricultural Building, with Mr. Dean seconding It. All ac tions were unanimous. 4,400 Voters In announcing the decision to break up the Franklin precinct. Chairman Barnard pointed out that It contains approximately 4,400 voters. With that large number, the counting of ballots sometimes cannot be completed until far into the night ? or often the early morning of the day after a general election. Sometimes, too, voters have to stand In line. An objection often voiced to the courtroom as a palling place is the long, steep stairs, difficult for elder ly people or persons who are not in good health. A Wise Move The division of this precinct would have required a new reg istration in each of the four new precincts, Mr. Barnard ex plained; since that was neces sary, and since It has been 15 years since there was a new registration, the board felt it would be wise to make it coun ty-wide at this time. The lines of the present big Franklin precinct have been substantially unchanged for half a century or more, except that, for a short time in the early 1930's, it was spilt Into two, with the people In the southern area voting at the Franklin school. After a single election, Mr. Barnard said, the two areas were reunited into one precinct. No. 2 case before the town fathers. At its present location, j the small booth, which opened ' May 1, Is partially obscured from view by the old Munday building, heavily leafed trees, telephone poles, highway signs, ' and parked cars. Tourists driving along Main Street often go right past the booth without seeing it, accord ing to Mrs. Lasca E. Horsley, 1 execut ? secretary, who oper ates Some visitors are un able to locate the booth even > after asking for directions downtown, she noted.
